Question Solenoid Repair

Ive been having trouble with my air system holding air. Ive noticed extended run time on my compressor and my air system leaking all the air out of the 7 gallon air tank with in 5 minutes. Long story short, I pulled off the air line that goes from my solenoid to my horns and it was hissing air. I ordered A new valve but I ended up pulling my old one off my air system and disassembling it. Wish I posted some photos or videos but has anyone else experience this problem? I have fixed this problem by using some silicone on the end of the little plunger inside the valve and it is holding air now.
