Cant find leak

Did you spray the weld seams on the tank?
For that matter - the whole tank?

Yes, the tank is tight.

Yellow tape i believe is for gas…

ive heard the permatex stuff works for loctite 545 works the best IMO…

I put it on the threads , connect it all and fire it back up and leak is gone… No 4 hours to wait!

I submerged the blue tank in the tub today, gauge and all. There are no bubbles. I let the tank sit for a few hours and it isn’t leaking. I’m 100% certain this tank and gauge is tight.
I’m about to hook up the air line and refill the tank. If it the system still leaks, at least I will have it narrowed down.

lead hose from compressor… check valve inside might be sticking. also check your airlines for a gouge or cut where it could be leaking.

I’m not running a compressor yet, the one I was going to use (smittybilt) burned up yesterday.
Without the air line hooked up to the tank
it didn’t leak. About 2 hrs ago I hooked the air line back up to the tank with permatex and so far, it hasn’t leaked at all! I would be able to tell if it was leaking like before.

The irony is that I just threw the manifold on the tank real fast with white Teflon tape for the bath tub test because I didn’t want to waste the permatex, and I haven’t changed anything. That is the only thing I have done different from the previous, leaky setup.
I will check the pressure in the AM and report back if it’s still holding. Im doubtful, but it hasnt held pressure this well in months.

Another question…can a hornblasters valve leak air somewhere other than through the lines, like through the top?

Silvy - that was my first thought too, but there is no compressor or check valve.
He uses the shrader valve to fill the tank.

nissan - if it still looses pressure I don’t know what to tell you…

EDIT: haha we posted at the same time

Ah, missed that…

you might have it now tho!

FYI guys… I’ve found it cheaper than what I’ve seen on eBay by running a Google Shopping search. Great stuff for sure! I’ve also used Rector Seal 5 with great success.

Hope u have it fixed now Nissan!

Did you mention in here anywhere the time span of your leakdown? If not, to those who are helping narrow down places/ideas for things to check…he told me he is losing a tank of air…in about 2 weeks of time. I really did LOL when he sent me a text and told me that. My stuff will leak down the full tank in 24 hours.

There is no reason a leak of any size should be acceptable. Last night the gauge shows I only lost 1.8 psi, in 9 hrs. Can that just be from the temp dropping?

Yes, temp changes will effect pressure, just like in a hot air balloon. And any setup will lose air over time no matter how well you seal it.

Sounds like you’re good to go.

Most of us have a compressor plumbed to the tank. So when people lose a few psi overnight, it doesn’t really matter. The compressor just kicks on a little sooner.

I see where you’re coming from though. Air tight should be air tight.

10 Deg F loss = 2 PSI loss at 100 PSI
10 Deg F loss = 3 PSI loss at 150 PSI
10 Deg F loss = 4 PSI loss at 200 PSI

The air temp in the tank will be hotter than ambient temp just after a Fill.
From the time of Fill until the Tank reaches Ambient temp there should be a PSI loss.

Sounds good! It’s still holding pressure so my leak is gone!
