Normal or major leak? Compressor starts in the morning.

Where did you fit 20 gallons?

yeah i tighten them probably harder than I should

LOL, ive broke compression nuts before because i dont know my own strength…

My system has a fair number of fittings and 7 separate runs of hose (see link to diagram in my signature). I used blue medium loctite on all threaded joints and stainless hose clamps on the barb fittings. It only loses about 3-5 psi every 24 hours but it seems to stop and level out when it gets near 130 psi.

Such a small leakage is nothing to worry about since I use the truck and horn often enough to recharge often anyway but I am a perfectionist so I plan to hunt down the small leak and fix it eventually. I suspect that it is my safety valve since it is rated at 150 psi and I fill my tank to 145 psi. This is very close to the limit so the safety valve could be allowing a slow leak which stops after the pressure drops down to 130 psi or so. Or it could be one of my hose clamp joints. I just don’t have the motivation to spend all the time on the creeper blowing soap bubbles so it will have to wait until I am bored enough to kill a few more hours.

check your clamps… i can almost guarantee it will be there…

In my $1100 toolbox that now has a hole in the bottom of it…hehe.

Even if he’s double clamped?

Unless Im trippin and I have the wrong person, I thought I saw your truck on a video, make a long story short, did you ever use a 165 - 200 pressure switch?

My first leak started because of a non-DOT compression fitting. I dont know what the difference was between it and all the other fittings, but it was different enough to leak no matter how much I tightened it. My second leak come from a needle guage at the front of my tank.

I did not use double clamps because I opted to use over-sized stainless clamps which are pretty wide and very strong. I will check for leaks and if I find the clamps to be the problem then I will consider going double.

Not my video - never posted any videos yet. My pressure switch is 120 / 145 I think.

my bad wile-e that message was directed towards 08fx4superduty. i hit the wrong quote button.

well i fixed my leak… i went out on a limb and just replaced the pressure switch. the old pressure switch basically had no threads on it LOL? even still, there wasn’t a detectable leak. Now with the new switch installed i am running next to nothing for leaks, and the switch goes up to about 207psi

i’m happy that’s all straightened out

Right on! Leaks are no good. :frowning:

I have a leak as well…in 4hrs it will run out and my compressor will not charge it by itself…I have to manually turn it on and guess how long it will fill or it will just keep running. But we already know what kind of POS system I have

Get the soapy spray bottle out and find the leaks.
