1/2 push fittings

I am installing the plastic hose from compressor to air valve, then on from the valve to the horn using the included 1/2 tube push fit fittings as part of my horn build kit.

Once the tube is seated in the fitting, what seems to be all the way, should the plastic ring stay out or be pushed in?
I’ve installed the line and on the valve side, the tube seems to be all the way in but the plastic ring on the fitting is not flush with the brass fitting body?

Also, how do you get these apart once they are seated?

Thanks,

Your 2 questions are related to each other. The ring is a release ring. Push it in to release the tubing. It should normally be out.

Once under presure the plastic ring will push itself out naturally & lock onto the pipe

Ok, thanks for the info.
One more question, I have the compressor, tank and horn working, boy its louder than I expected which is good.
I want to add a regulator, would it make sense to put it between the compressor and the SMC valve? Or would you go between the SMC valve and the horn?

The regulator would go on the pipe out of the tank & before the SMC valve.
