2004 Impala SS: Shocker 540 Install..

My first install…
I had a few goals in mind while doing the install.
Modify the car as little as possible.
Keep trunk space.
Mount all horns in the same direction.
Keep compressor noise to a minimum.
Have an air gauge up front.
Keep it stealth!

It took me 3 days, 8 hours a day and then some to finally finish.

The car:

The horns:
My main goal here was to have them pointing in the same direction. Fitting all 4 horns into the space I had was tedious. I didnt want any horns to be visible below the car, so I had to make sure the longest horn was mounted as high as it could go without affecting the hood closing properly. So I made some L-brackets to mount the 2 longest horns. The other 2 horns are secured by giant zip ties. The air valve is secured to a frame piece with bolts and lock-nuts. The best part is, I didnt even have to take the bumper off to install them!

Underside view:
Here is a view from under the car. All horns are out of view.

The air tank:
The air tank was another issue…I wanted to mount it where it would take up the LEAST trunk space. It took me a while to find the right spot where the mounting bolts would go directly through the trunk and not through a support beam!

Another shot with my TC Sounds LMS Ultra 15:

The compressor:
This gave me the most issues. I didnt want to hear/feel compressor noise. So mounting under the trunk was the only option. I had to order a longer leader hose to reach the air tank. I also had to buy the Viair bracket. I acquired some vibration isolators (made for aircraft engines) to mount the compressor. After this, I can barely tell its on!

The air gauge:
I took extra care when installing the air gauge. I chose an Autometer gauge for reliability. I then wired in a switch that controls the gauge lighting as well as the compressor.

Overall Im happy with how it turned out. I have the air valve wired to the stock horn for now. Running the 1/2in air line from the trunk to the front was a PITA, same for the air gauge. Nothing about this install was easy, but in the end, all my goals were met!

Props for a nice install man. Good and clean.

Are there any videos in your near future? lol

Thanks for the comments. I plan on making some videos when I get a better camera!

That thing is sweet man!! Get any videos??

Hey - I dont make it “back” here much so feel free to e-mail if you can and have time. I could really use your suggestions as to which model you got and why. Not that its been in there and in use for awhile, would you have done anything different? I just bought a suburban lately and the train horn is going to be my FIRST accessory. I’m not found of the folks that just go out scaring people and then giggle like punk oven juniour high school girls at the mall - my intention is the just plain head-up-the-**** drivers that are going to cause accidents. The stock honrs just plain don’t work when the soccer mom (on her cellphone) pulls out from, what she thinks, is a 4way stop only yo get T-boned and see “little Jimmy” get ejected from the vehicle because the stock detroit horn just didn’t make her think. When I was in trucking years ago, those air horns helped much more but I need/want even more than that. I’m not going to be some horn rambo and make people dirty their fruit-of-the-looms every time I get behind the wheel but if i need it, I want it there.

EXCELLENT install. I appreciate not only your excellent craftsmanship but the fact that you took pictures and shared them with us along with your reasoning why you did things the way you did. Regards.

Where did you get the longer hose from the compressor to the tank?

Thanks for the comments. I chose the Shocker 540 kit because it comes with a larger tank. Also because the shocker horns are easy to fit in the space I have.

I dont remember exactly where, but all I did was go here:

Pick the one I needed and googled “viair 92809” and it brings up a ton of places that have them.

I’m really impressed by this install. Please email me pictures, and write up a testimonial, to be featured in our catalog: Garrett@Hornblasters.com

Job well done!!!

I hate how the horns can fit in everyone else’s front bumper but mine!
