2008 Avalanche LTZ Install

I went with Twin Chrome Viair 480C compressors,
a 5 gallon tank with 8 - 1/2 inch ports mounted behind the front bumper,
and Hornblasters “Shocker XL” train horn trumpets.
I also mounted an Air Zenith digital pressure gauge inside to keep an eye on how much “hang time” I have left!!!

This was the pile of parts I had delivered to a friends house in N.C. so that I could install them when I was on vacation in Atlanta.

I live in Canada and the duty and tax on this set-up would have been crazy.
So I installed everything in about 8 hours on a Saturday at a friends house.

Sounds awesome but pics wont load for me. Anyone else see them?

I had some help from my friend in Georgia to weld up the two brackets to support the 5 gallon tank behind the front bumper.

The tank has 8 1/2 inch ports to easily hold all the inputs, outputs, gauge sender, pressure sender for the compressors, safety valve, output solenoid and regulator, as well as a ball valve to drain the tank.

I added a 160 psi adjustable regulator because the horns sound best between 150-160 psi.

I mounted the twin 480C Viair compressors in the spare battery tray.

Finally mounted the 4 trumpets to the underside of the skid plate, (had to tie wrap one to the first 3 that were mounted due to their size)

I mounted an Air Zenith remote pressure gauge to keep an eye on tank pressure and voltage to the compressors.

My Avalanche had an unused button (far right, for the heated washer) that I utilized to turn on the ignition power for the compressors and the gauge as well as tripping a latching relay so I can use the factory horn button to activate the solenoid. It switches back to my “city horns” when not engaged.

That is awesome. Great work! Has given me some ideas for when i upgrade my system… Cheers!

I know the install of the horns with the tie wraps looks a little “ghetto” but I was over 800 miles from home, working in a driveway. Things got tidied up nicely once I got home and had a little more time for details.

Either way looks very nice.

Nice to finally see another NNBS suv on this forum.

Nice install there! A few zip ties never hurt anybody…

When you open the ball valve to drain the tank, do you lower the end of the hose down?
It looks like it’s angled up & the tank wouldn’t drain. Maybe you just have it tucked up until you need it…

That’s pretty sweet having everything up front.
Kudos for getting around the import duty & tax.

The hose is slightly higher than the valve, but any water in the tank seems to be pushed out by the air pressure.
I like it cause it’s very easy to get to, and I have been pretty good about draining it at least every other day.
I am kinda worried once the weather gets cold about freezing inside the tank. Any tips???

Here’s a thread about air brake anti freeze:

I’ll be back out today to try some brake line anti-freeze.
It’s gonna be cold all next week so I will see how it goes.
Thanks for the info.
