I plan to buy a 8 gallon air tank - should I run dual 480’s or just go with a single 480cc compressor? I will be pushing K5LA’s with 1/2 line.
you should do dual 444c’s and call it done. if you do one refill is going to take a while and that k5 will suck that air out instantly causing the single comp to work much harder and longer.
3 questions for ya…
Do you mind waiting for your tank to fill?
Do you want the warranty?
Do you have the funds?
I have a K5LA with 8 gallons and it goes quick.
i have 12 gallon tank with dual 480s and its not bad… so dual 480s for u should be awesome
Welcome to the forum. ViAir’s warranty rules include that no single air compressor should be ran with over a 5 gallon tank. Doing so, will void the one year warranty on the model, and significantly cut its life cycle.
Dual 480cs would work great. 100% duty cycle, at 100 psi. ViAir’s second fastest air compressor, it will do the job.

I have a modified K5, and 7 gallons goes really quick!
Thanks for the compressor advice. I want to get a bigger tank but I am planning to install under the bed and space is limited. I have looked at some slim tanks in 9 gallon but that is really pushing the limit of space. Would there be any disadvantage to get a slim tank? And do you have any websites that might have slim tanks available?
Be careful when entering the above URL. If you spell it right, you’ll see they changed their name to “Quality Air Ride”.
dan. they changed their name??!!

That’s what I saw when I went to their website. I wonder if they changed hands because they haven’t ordered a compressor from us since February last year and we usually get at least a few orders every year.
Buy a number of smaller tanks and slave them together. It’s easier to hide two or three 2-gallon tanks than one 5-gallon tank.
I couldn’t fit the larger tank, so I went with two 5 gallon tanks and piped them together.
dont want to thread jack but this is related. I have a 8.5 gal tank and two 480c compressors, can anyone tell me how long I will probably be able to honk my K5s with 1/2" air line at 150 psi? also how long to refill?
About 6-7 sec and about 3 min from empty
That’s not too bad. I will probably get a bigger tank once I get a lift on my truck. I will have space over my axle.

So would it benefit me to replace my pressure switch, 125-150 I think to a 165-200 and put a regulator in between the tank and the horns? I am also probably going to order a digital guage. Any body know a good place to get one?

Right now I have about 8 gallons @ 200 psi. It takes mine about 2 seconds to drop from 200 down to 150. That is unregulated. So if it was regulated to about 130 it would add even more honk time.
Hornblasters sells 2 different digital gauges.
I’m getting a regulator from Mcmaster Carr.
What fittings and air line size come in a standard hornblater kit?

1/2" DOT with PTC fittings. Drain valve, safety valve, reducer bushings, etc…
