A little horn help

I have bells 4a and 2 with a k3h base and I can not get the train horn sound like in the videos. They sound wimpy and my set up is a 5 gallon tank with one compressor and my hose is air compressor hose. When I get the tank up to 150 and let air go to the horns it’s not loud. Do I need the number one bell to get that sound? Any help would be apprenticed thanks

Do you have a block off plate or some way to cover the unused port on the K3 manifold?

Yes it’s covered. So what is the best thing to do?

^^^Seems pretty obvious, but some people might not think of that…

Anyway, it should be loud, but just a different tone. So what size hose, what size and type of fittings, what size and type of valve? If it’s a solenoid valve, is it installed the correct direction? Or maybe it’s not opening all the way…?

I’m running a 3/8 hose with a solenoid valve all the fitting are same size to make it fit. Is the hose to big I’ve had it hooked up for a while now.

The K’series horns eats vast amounts of air!
Change the pipework to 1/2" then come back and say they are not loud!

Ill do that in a little bit then ill come back and let you know.

If it’s true 3/8" I.D. hose, then that’s fine. It’s the same as the 1/2" O.D. that tons of people use.

Make sure the arrow on the solenoid valve is pointing towards the horns.

Ok it’s all hooked up and right I took my time to look over every thing. So what kind of hose are you all using can you post up some links where to get it at. Dose it matter that it’s air compressor hose? To all that have k3s can you post a picture of what you have your air line running into on the bottom thanks.

This was at ~130psi running 3/8"OD hose (almost 100ft), reduced to a 1/4" standard air tool quick connect. So even running proper psi through a tiny hose has impressive results with my k3.

Like mentioned I would check and make sure your valve is properly installed.

Also I’ve seen talk of a reducer put inside some Nathan’s to make them highway safe, look into the base and it should look like pretty consistent. If about an inch down there’s a plug with a tiny little hole in it, remove it.

This is assuming that they made K3’s in highway form??? Not to familiar with details on these.

They’re called Over The Road editions (OTR) and any new Airchimes sold to the public (including those sold by Hornblasters) are OTR’s as I found out. Early K5’s had the reducer bushing installed before a change of heart by Microprecision saw them shipped without. My K3 had an OTR manifold but no reducer in it. AFAIK they are no different to the standard K3 manifolds apart from the OTR tag.
