A quick question about owning a train horn

I live in California, and yeah, I know, train horns are illegal here in the nanny state :stuck_out_tongue: I know a couple of people who have train horns on their car or trucks here but my question is this:

  1. Have any one of you been hassled by law enforcement (Here in the state of California) for ā€œHavingā€ them? (not for sounding them on public roadways or highways)

I ask this because People say there Illegal to ā€œHaveā€.

I don’t know the law there, but it’s pretty hard to know you have them unless they catch you using them…
Maybe take them out for inspection?

i just moved to florida from california and all i have to say is, be careful where you honk. my guess is, if caught, you’d get a ticket for 1. too loud of a horn and 2. unnecessary honking. there’s no actual law for having a train horn on your vehicle because for the most part it’s kinda unheard of. knowing cali tho and how anal they could be, they might require you to remove the horn if caught. not sure tho. just be careful
by the way, where in cali are you? check out my trainhorn vids on youtube, titled ā€œtrainpornā€ maybe you’ll recognize some places.

edit: i think the law is that it’s not illegal to have a train horn, on your car or not. it’s just illegal to use it in places you obviously shouldn’t :stuck_out_tongue:

There is No vehicle inspection here. Its only a smog check every other year and the guy seen my ā€œTruckā€ horn not my train horn but he did see some guy had a train horn on his car and he was Cool about it!!

Thank you Honduhh!!! I am on the Central Coast, Wine country! I’ll check out your video. I subbed to your youtube channel.

I know here in New York that is is legal to own and hook up any type of air horn, but it is not legal to use train horns in towns and cities. Its allowed on highways.

Thats good to know, I was thinking about not putting horns on.
