Advice on Compressor/Tank Upgrade

My Chinese Compressor/3L tank is dying. The piston gets stuck in worn sleeve and i have to wack it now and then (more now)…
So i have been checking out some viair compressors and assorted tanks.
I eyed up a chrome 5 gal. 9 port tank w/cosmetic damage for $50 shipped.
And assorted viair compressors…
—What would be the ideal Viair for a 5gal tank ?
–What is the minimum # of ports needed ?
-My horns, hose, solenoid, and wireing are all in place.

I was also looking at some 3 Gal. tanks to keep a bit of extra trunk.
This is in my Mint '95 Q45

I missed a sweet deal here on a used compressor/tank the other day, ddnt jump fast enough.
Thanks,
James
BTY - if anyone has a used setup i’m interested…

How much psi do you want? I use a 480c which does 200psi and I love it on my 5 gallon.

yes 480c and 5 gallon tank are the way to go

Will a 380c do the job ???

yes the 380c will do the job

And what is the minimum amount of ports i need…

hoe are the 3 gallon firestone tanks w/ 4 ports >>???

ill say 4-5 ports are fine

1- pressure switch
2- air line for the horns
3- PSI Safety Valve
4- and 5- just in case you want to mount a digital gauge or anything else

cool thanks.

What size safety valve if running 200 psi ???

So i have eyed up a package All NEW:

  • 380c
  • firestone 3 gallon 4 port
  • 200 psi switch
  • relay
    $200 shipped

obviously, ima gonna have to upgrade my horns in the near future :D:D

whatcha think ?

i had my 480c on a 3 gallon and it filled so fast it was great

235 will do fine here 235 PSI Safety Blow-off Valve (for 200 PSI Systems) – HornBlasters

thats a nice deal 200 for all that new

I thought so - tracked and expecting delivery 2morro.
Gonna really amp up my horns from the 120 psi 3ltr setup.
James

awesome take some pic’s of the horns!!

I want to pick up my fittings 2morro:

1/4" ports refers to inner diameter or outer diameter ???

What is the OD ??

what is the thread US OR METRIC ???

thanks,
James

ok got everything mounted and working properly.
i do still have to remount my tank and compressor on a board then mount board.
the firestone tanks brackets make it hard to send a self tapping screw in.

i used the same power line to the relay and solenoid, is that ok ???
the 3 gallon tank is awsome compared to the 3 ltr i had…
and the 380 rocks…
bty i have a 1/2 " solenoid

my air horns are wired to my car horn, gonna run a wire and put a toggle to the solenoid ground to switch between the 2 horns…

James

THE ANSWER IS NO NO u need a direct heavy gague wire from battery to the Relay… Otherwise ur fuse holder will glow MOLTEN hot and fuse will melt and blow…
ran the wire from battery 2night, compressor isa running faster and cooler and the fused line is cool as a cucumber…
while running wires ran a line to switch off the solenoid so as not to be FULL ON all the time…
2 morro gonna buy a switch and wire it up…
Have to go to ebay and buy some stock horns (misplaced mine )…
BTY mad loud

Took a cruise around my hood… A few PPL called me cursing. As i walked in house Wife Said " ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUC*IN MIND…

aH HAH … Horns are workin great…

OK - just finished wireing in a solenoid cutoff, which allows just factory horn to fire…
Added a 2nd switch to the compressor line to cut that off as well…

take some pic’s of the install bro!!!

Did you buy this tank already? and what kind of cosmetic damage are you talking about? scratched? or dented?..

Any tank that had been dented in any way is dangerous… once it is dented it takes away from the strength of the tank and could cause failure/explode

I would highly sugest NOT to buy this tank if it is dented
