Air in the tank?

Do you ever drain the air out or do you just leave it in there?

Not sure what your supposed to do

Just leave it in, unless you are draining the tank’s water out.

How often do you need to drain the water out? I have a 2 gallon tank.

How would you go about draining it?

I drain mine every 1 or 2 months depending on how much the compressors are running. You should have installed a drain cock on the bottom of the tank.

Oh okay. And I think there is one… I have the vail tank (in the shocker 228vx kit)
It has a little plug thing on the bottom.

Should I let the air out before draining it?

Im guessing its the VIAIR tank you have… and if it has a plug in it , you do not want to take a plug out under any pressure especially full pressure. It will become a bullet and will go thru a window / eye / etc…

What you need is a drain cock http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Brass-Drain-Cock-/280814142376?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4161d3c3a8
that looks like something like this …

I’ll take a picture of what mine has, that way to be sure…

So basically when I go to do it, let the air out the tank, then unscrew it.

I’ll post a pic or 2 up in about 20-30 minutes

Thanks!

yes, drain the air via the horns or if you have a coupling on the tank hook up a blow gun and drain… then remove the plug. Air pressure at high psi’s especially between 150-200 what most of us run is fun but very dangerous. Thats why tanks are rated for certain psi’s an should not be max’d out… shrapnel !

This is the thing i would unscrew to let the water out right?:

and this is the thing i could use to release the air?:

yep

great, thanks for the help Bryan!

Yep you dont need to take out the entire drain cock, just twist the bottom part off.

You could always buy another 1/4 valve from HB and hook it up to a switch, let it drain from the safety of your seat.

I tend to let a few lbs of air out of mine until my compressor kicks on if I am bored and waiting somewhere… If you do it in a parking lot with people walking around, they tend to look down at your tires expecting a gaping hole

I had the same sorta setup, only I had a tube on the passenger side pointing out sideways and I would some times roll up to a bus stop and dump some air - shooting out a cloud of fine mist - oh how people would jump:D

Eeeewwwww, tank water is nasty!

Great idea!! That would be perfect revenge for that dog that kept trying to “water my tire” one day…

Or the other thing I have been known to do is simply spin my windscreen washer jets round 90 degrees and slowly drive past bus stops and give them a squirt!
Dont do this in traffic though, I went past a crowd of people waiting to cross a busy road - as the water hit each person in the face - they all reacted like a mexican wave, apart from the 6ft 2" athletically built bloke who promptly broke out into a full blown sprint and chased us down a busy congested road, I had to jump the lights and hook a swift right turn in an attempt to get away!

lol

i always seem to drain mine by the horn switch … (lol) but yes you need to drain them periodically
