I know the burst rate of the air tanks is pretty high and I will never run that high of a PSI in an air tank, but can you run those “rated” for 150 psi up to 200psi? I was looking to get another 5Gal tank with 2 200psi air compressors, but if there is a “problem” with getting 200psi into it… that is something to think about.
do you know what the tank is made out of?
Steel Air tank… same ones sold on by the HB guys…
More specifically this tank…
The other 5G 8P tank has a “Max pressure” of 300PSI with a burst rate of 800psi, but this one says “Rated at 150psi”
I don’t recommend pressurizing a tank beyond its rating especially as it gets older but some people do it.
mine says max: 150psi and i run it at 175psi before that 200psi and nothing happens
While it isnt recommended, it can be done. The big thing is like dan said, age can be a factor, and rust from not draining the tanks will lead to failures alot faster. Make sure you use a pop off safety valve too if you dont have one.
Why 200 psi? That puts a lot bigger strain on your electrical system and wears the compressors faster.
He said he ran it at 200, but now 175…
I believe he was talking to you…
I don’t run 200psi, I run 150… the compressors i’m getting are capable of 200 psi, but I will not run them that high, I am going to get a 175 / 145 pressure switch…
Sorry I didnt see you were running 150 in your first post. My bad.
All good… I’m just wondering if I can safely run a 175psi switch in a “Rated 150psi” tank…
Yes, Just make sure you drain it once a week.
