How is it that the same style amtrak k5la sound so much different and better to me than any other k5la???Are they tuned different

It might be that you are hearing the K5LLA that some of the CSX uses on their trains.
Amtrak have snow cones ( on some units ). Not debris filters.
Also amtraks are standard 1,2,3a,4a,5
#5 having the big bore .
Also the k5las on amtrak are ABF…( all bells forward)
Other csx and union pacific have K5LLA’s
Which are 1l,1,2,3a,4a
With gevo notch on the manifolds.
Amtrak K’5 don’t have the gevo notch
whats the deal with the gevo notch, Does that affect sound? i thought it was just for mounting purposes.
Gevo Notch is just a hole on the mounting plate of the manifold.
You wouldn’t think so, but just having some of the bells reversed will sound different.
