Another clip of a Grand General train horn

I wish there was a horn out there that sounded like this but had the noise level and dependability of the Buells (Shockers) with the budget price. Even a trained ear would have a hard time telling the difference between this and a K3.

Seeing it on youtube is one thing. I’d bet that standing there in person next to those and a K3, they’d be world’s apart. There’s something about those big cast metal bells that you just can’t replicate with smaller horns like that.

^No crap, of course these are nowhere near as loud as real train horns. Neither are the Buells, the big die-cast aluminum bells you get from real train horns are expensive for a reason.

I didn’t mean volume. They sound different not only because they’re big and loud. Even if theyre playing the same notes, the cast metal gives a ring that doesn’t come across on smaller bells.

Yes, they do. Air horns are very oddball devices because there are so many things that can affect the harmonics of the sound. It sounds like this Grand General horn has heavier casting than most spun-brass horns and has a sharper sound to it as a result.

Those are identical to the ones I have made by United Pacific…

These are smaller, about $100 cheaper, much quieter, take less air and blow different notes. United Pacific DOES sell a horn more similar to the Generals, their 46129, but even that blows different notes.
