They can confiscate your vehicle if you’re carrying contriband, impound it if your drunk, and make you remove anything that’s considered unsafe so why not something they consider illegal?
yea but is not the same contriband, dui, etc… than having a train horn in your car

Yeah, I think all vehicle codes have some sort of provision against train horns:
California Vehicle Code General Provisions, Division 12, Chapter 5, Article 1, Section 27000
iA motor vehicle, when operated upon a highway, shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than 200 feet, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound. An authorized emergency vehicle may be equipped with, and use in conjunction with the siren on that vehicle, an air horn that emits sounds that do not comply with the requirements of this section.[/i]
They could get you on the unreasonably loud/harsh sound because its just so open to interpretation.

they confiscated mine a few months back because they said that some had been stolen in a train yard a few miles away while the had no proof that these were the ones…they said they were going to get me for receiving stolen property(A ******* FELONY 5) and im 17. and i got a horn operation ticket i had to go to court for and got off the hook on that one… and never heard anything from the cops since the day after they took em…still didnt get em back
wow thats bad but what proof do they have to tell that u stole it or you bought it from the guy who stole it?
That’s B/S. I’d sue the department. They have no proof that they were stolen as there’s NO way for a RR to tell what train the horn went on.

They have to provide a chain of custody, meaning you should have been given a receipt or something saying the police took them. I’d talk with the desk sergeant or the department public relations person and file a complaint.

but aside from that…
i can see how a train horn would be unsafe. but is that what they meant? i just thought it was all about the environment and that’s why certain car parts like ewg’s or whatnot have to be removed because they pollute too much.
but overall there’s really no law on train horns because the idea is still pretty new i think. i have a feeling if it became pretty popular they’d eventually make it known that no one can have a train horn on their vehicle.

Exactly why I don’t drive around scaring people. Not only are those video BORING! It brings negative attention to those of us who are collectors.

FE07, you said it wasn’t a moving violation. You may want to check that again. I just got bagged and mine IS a moving violation. I talked to a lawyer about it. I’d fight it either way, you should always try.

Of course it’s a moving violation… You’re moving when you were honking… Sounds dumb, but it’s the law :/.
