well ive had police over twice now due to scaring people. once i was lucky and was out at the time so my housem8 called me so i trained air tank to 30psi before going home to waiting police who made me let if off.
2nd time they did not mke me let it off.
However i would like some super secret hidden switch that i can use to kill the system wither it be by creating a short circuit and blowing a small fuse or a magenetic switch tht can easyly be hidden.
I want it so if police come over after a complaint. Or if I get pulled over on the road and they see it underneath my ute. I can quickly hit a swich and go ohhhhh sorry officer it’s not working the valves playing up then hit the button and nothing.
I helped wired up a mates classic ford for him so the car wont start unless the ac vent is closed.
We used a toggle micro swich hooked up behind the vents. But was was alot of work.
i was thinkingu could hook a magnetic reed swich up under cab floor leave a strong rare earth magnet on top of it it should stick. To floor through vinyl floor.
Cop comes just pic magnet up and bam no air horn. Would also work great when getting work done 2 car.
Are you asking how to wire it or more-so where to put it?
You’re basically talking about a valet switch. All you have to do is cut the wire going to your valve and put a switch inline. I guess it depends on how super secret you want the switch. I’d just put it up under the dash a little.
Careful though - you don’t want to be reaching around while a cop is approaching. It can be a little scary for them.
Simple option is to get a switch from the breakers, one that matches the other switches on the dash, even one with rear screen heater on it or something. Simply switch it over if the the old bill tug you. there are often blanks on the dash where switches could go.
You could also be clever & get two dash switches, but wire them both up, so they both need to be both on before the Horn system works, as officer approaches, turn both off, switches mounted in two different locations, so even if they push the odd button hear & there, the chances are they wont get the right combination. (maybe even turn one of the switches upside down).
Don’t try to do it by inducing a short on the system, if there was a problem & the fuse did not blow, you could possibly end up with a small fire behind your dash & doing more damage than good.
How about just add another valve to dump the tank on demand, it would be loud but if your getting pulled over the tank would probably be drained by the time you stop and the officer approaches you.
I use a choke cable to drain the tank from inside the cab as my safety valve is mounted were a drain would go. However this is no good if police are already at door.
Switch needs to be hidden and easy to reach I like the idea of grabing another stock switch.
Ear 2 war I wanted some thing I can easily ‘bump’ when I hop into the cab not go yes officer ill let it off. Might play with a reed switch as would be nothing to kick a magnet on the transmission hump or similar.
This might be obvious, but a horn is outside your vehicle, so an officer of the law has no business being inside your vehicle when it comes to discussions about one. Thus, he shouldn’t be in there fumbling with switches; if he wants the horn blown you can blow it for him while he watches.
There’s basically no excuse for him to ever enter your vehicle for something pertaining to a horn…
No but last time officer’s came arround with a confuses look on there face saying they had a complaint about a train horn. They asked me to let it off and I did (was at 30psi)
However if I ever get pulled over or they are arround again with full pressure I want to be able to say to the officer. I can’t blow them the switch is broken or similar. Also if mates borrow the ute it means they can’t use it like the mad men they are.
Kill switch won’t make any difference to the cops. You got the horns, they have complaints (more than one)… and it’s a done deal, you get a fine. You can get the same issues if you have a loud stereo, do burnouts, or even for using your stock horn.
Yep I know that but I guantee you if I let horns off at 200psi in front of them I would of got a fine.
Also in Australia single tone airhorns are not illegal. Not is there a limit on db. All I can get done with is improper use of a safety feature ( same as flashing headlight to warn other motorists of police ahead)
I agree with DBO. If a law officer wants to write you a ticket, he’s going to look for a reason. It mostly comes down to how you handle the stop, I think. Where the stop occurs (i.e. city versus back woods/country) may also play into it
