im wanting to get my K5HL’s powder coated anything i should know?
tips and warnings would be appreciated.
TIA
Powder is pretty simple. You don’t want any powder on the inside of the throats. Stuff a towel down in them to keep it clean.
so powder the outside and manifold and paint the interior? Do you usually take these apart to powdercoat or do it assembled?
thanks again
talk to curt s he does some great powder coating!
You can powder the inside of bells, just not down inside the throat, or where the diaphragms sit.
Curt S, where are you? I’ve called you three times since Thursday and left a MSG but no return phone call.
pm him
theres nothing wrong with getting powder or paint in the throat u just dont want it inside the internal section of the horn…
open the chamber of the horn and put a piece of masking over the throat opening then tape off the entire internal chamber and go to work…
Sorry had a long weekend.
The hardest parts with these horns is out-gassing and they have a ton of Faraday area’s. I coat at 250-350 degree’s to get a good finish the first coat, and doesn’t cost me a 1 lb of powder to do. Flocking them is the way to go if your good at watching the thickness build while coating, I can do a K5 with 4oz of powder. These horns suck but its still cheaper, and faster then paint. Well cheaper if you have all the right tools already.
Dont get any powder in the kettle area.
