from time to time my system likes to stick on. currently have a 165/200 PSI pressure switch. it will kick on run up to pressure and keep going till the over pressure blowoff kicks open. i go out, pull the fuse, let it sit for a few and it will act normal for a few months. as of late, it has been doing it more recently.
bad pressure switch or relay? so have told me relay is sticking, but i am leaning towards pressure switch staying open.
are some pressure switches better than others? what is a good one to get? the current one is just the one that came with my viair kit.
I went thru 2 of the standard small pressure switches that have the 2 connectors sticking out… Then i went with the viair grey box style and havent had a prob since.
I’d say your problem is describing a bad pressure switch, or possibly a relief valve thatg is too sensitive… Maybe the safety relief is only a 200 psi , which would answer your problems…
its not the pressure valve. as it has stuck shut. i looked at my gauge and it was pegged at over 250. the relieve valve is a 210 psi i believe. it has since been lubed and works properly, don’t need to be blowing a line due to a stuck relief valve.
highly doubt you would blow a line… i know the ones i bought / got from hornblasters have a 900 psi burst rate… I wanna say most DOT brake line will be around there…
But anyways try replacing the pressure switch first… I always say start with the cheapest things first.
i am not worried about my line to my vavle/horn. i have a 25ft coil of normal air hose for my OBA setup under the truck. it is rated at 250PSI burst, 200 working.
One quick test you can do is when the problem occurs again, pull one of the wires out of the pressure switch. If the compressor stopped, it’s the switch and if it did not, it’s the relay that is stuck close.
neither is in a convient location to get to lol.
but i ordered a new pressure switch from hornblasters site, only to get an email today saying the one i wanted was out of stock.
