Best Train Horn Under $500?

Hey, I own a 2004 Acura TL and want to install a train horn on the car. I was wondering what the best possible train horn kit (i.e deepest and loudest) would be that could fit well on a car of my general size and would be under $500??? Any opinions?

Conductor special 540.

I think I spent $510 out the door with the discount you get for being a forum member.

shockers are the one of the deepest sounding horns you can buy besides ship horns.

I had shockers and mine were just the opposite. Had a higher pitch than a k3

My understanding on the specs of train horns are limited… But so far you all say:
Conductor Special 540
K3
And shockers? If im not right arent there various models of schockers?
Please keep in mind the limited amount of space in the car im driving. thanks.

For that budget, stick with the shockers! Best bang for buck… Then when you get more $ get a k3 and grin from ear to ear everytime someone pulls out in front of you!

Yea, most of us have trucks and such and with a car…the 540 special would be best for you. Shockers are all individual and can be mounted anywhere…which is perfect in your case. Go to hornblasters.com and go look at the install pictures on cars that they have…could be helpful and a good decision maker.

you must have had the ones with the squealing problem. seen a few here having that problem. mine sounds deep. must have been due to running it at only 125psi.

The conductor special 540 is a little over my price limit… What about the conductor special 232? Is the only difference a smaller tank? and if that’s the case, would the only difference in function be a shorter horn blast?

smaller tank and a bit slower compressor.

they should sound the same. just a little shorter honk time and a bit longer fill time.

How long we talking? (both max honk time, and the fill time to follow)

If you haven’t seen my installation (links are in my signature), I started with the smaller kit, and then did a pretty major upgrade in both tank and compressor. My setup is living proof that you can get a set of Shocker XLs mounted in a really small car if you have the determination to “git 'er done”. In retrospect, if I were to start from scratch I wish I would have chosen a setup that has separate components vs. having an all-in-one…I would have saved a pretty good chunk of change. Since it seems that your budget is a major consideration, spend some time researching what a good combination would work out to be and then spread the purchase time out over a few paydays.

For example, if I were to do another smart car, I would use something like a Firestone “slim ‘n’ skinny” 5-gallon tank for my air storage. It’s longer but not as big in diameter, and would fit into my space better than what I have now without taking up so much of my usable cargo carrying ability. For a compressor, I think I’d choose something like the ViAir 444…relatively budget-minded, moderately sized, and fairly quick refill on the Firestone skinny 5-gallon, and it matches the air pressure limits of the tank too. And for horns I’d still choose the Shocker XLs, but use all but the longest one, OR, just use a set of the ones Hornblasters calls the Rockers. It’s 2 horns instead of 4, but would still be really freakin’ LOUD. For me, getting that 4th long horn shoehorned in the car was the BEAST…trying to get it installed without cutting up the car. I wanted to be able to return the car to completely stock with no evidence they were in there if I ever take them out.

lol the kit im selling is under $500 and you get a LOAD of stuff… 2 compressors, 8.5 gallon tanks, shockers XL.
