Just wondering if there would be any difference in operation/efficency/honktime between a big 12gallon tank and a 5+7 linked together to make 12 gallon total ???

Nope. Just make sure the airline connecting the tanks is as big as the airline to the horns.
12 gallons is 12 gallons.

yah mines not like that… dual 480s merge into a tee, travel down the car in a 1/2 od line, then splits into a tee to feed both 5g tanks which are right next to each other. my line to my horn is 3/4 od. i dont think its been a problem, but yet again im not entirely sure what to look for.
Your setup obviously works just fine. So the 1/2" line with the tee connects the tanks so they can equalize. Really only half of the air being sent to the horn is going through the 1/2" line.
