Are you asking if you are in Washington…with Oregon registration…would the officer have the right to search? If that is what you are asking, indeed they do have the right. There are several things that can be up to the officer, and also the reciprocation between both states…for instance: Window tint. Lets say the state law in Oregon says you can have tint no darker than 25%. You drive into Washington, where the law is no darker than 35%. Depending on the laws/ordnances/reciprocity between those states…the Washington officer could cite you for the tint while driving through their state. In almost all cases, even if the officer can legally cite you like that…you are more than likely going to get off with a warning…if that is the only thing they pulled you over for.
Cooperating and being truthful with LEO is your best route, no matter what. An officer is going to give you 100% more respect for being honest and cooperative, rather than not. Being uncooperative and stretching the truth/lying when things are obvious is going to make you a target. And when some of you cry about harassment, you’ll have no case at all when it is found you had a chance to initially be truthful with an officer to begin with.
Again, not busting anyones balls…just trying to get you guys to lighten up a bit.
