C Class RV E450--- K5LA---Install

Hi all thought its time to start posting the progress made so far in between being pulled in 3 other directions by the wife n kids

First off had to fit the small 8 gallon tank

h

Then i could fit the 12 gallon tank

Next up was to make a H plate to mount the horn

Excuse the bolts used below still got to get some decent ones !!!

Thats it so far and being a bank hol weekend not going to be home much either :frowning:
Cheers Stu

Nice job bro. You gonna face the horns forward?

Woot! 20 gallons!

Thats a BIG 10-4 dixie chopper facing forwards
I know some have them pointing at the floor or curb but has anyone tried them facing rearward ?? im thinking it would sound a bit wrong??

OHH YEAH 20Gallons
I remember when i started looking at k5 kits etc they all came with a 5 gallon tank which i though was a bit small
So i asked bryan on here what he got out of his 12 tank which he did and he also filmed it which i am still greatfull for thanks again bryan
So when i found RHT did one with an 8 gallon i still had to get me 12 gallon tank ;)

Nice work so far. That’s one heavy duty bracket you made there! Have you worked out how much they’ll be protruding from underneath? Don’t make them too visible for outsiders (might be a bit tempting for a 5 finger discount given their scarcity in the UK).

20 gallons should get you plenty of honking time. Mine face the rear and some face down. Not sure how they sound outside but they’re loud as hell inside!! You have a nice install going buddy keep up the good work and give updates!

Just curious, what do trains in Europe use for horns? DBO said Nathans are scarce, just wondering what trains there use? Maybe a dumb question but had to ask

Nice install!

Trust me, my K3LA points straight down and I’m heard at 1.5 miles. Any direction you point them, people will hear you and move.

Cheers DBO yeah it is a bit but dont want a lesser duty one snapping/cracking and losing those bad boys!!! hopefully they wont be visable at all as my main concern was to get them higher than the towbar.

Hi dixie chopper i honestly dont know apart from there two tone
And i think DBO is refering more to K3-K5LA’s

Cheers MarineOne
1.5 miles i can live with that but hoping for a bit more

Havent much to update as had man flu etc but started on the compressor
install

Why do they put these crap headed bolts in the kit

Ah thats better

Cheers Stu

Nice to see that you are going to properly fill those 20 gallons.

I wanna hear them things in London!!! I’m actually a little bit Jel!
I got a confirmed 5 miles outta my rear facing K3’s down at Southend

I will be watching this intstall;)

Hi ear2ear yep got to keep in spec for the warranty
but when its run out ive got options hey

Hi Stinkyp you may well here them on the M25 one day

Right guys just an update the rain has been falling pretty much every evening when its time to crack on with my install but i have made progress
I have now got the compressers all bolted in
The H plates fitted and the K5’s bolted to it
The tanks are all sealed with loctite 545 sealer
The 1/2" air line to the K5’s via the extreme 350 solenoid all fitted
I have the air zenith led gauge wired in but just placed at the bottom left corner of the dash at the mo
Ive tapped into the horn wiring and wired in a on/on 3pin switch
Tonight i managed to get the trigger side of the 4 relays wired up and also got the main feed wires run from the relays all the way to the compressers
Earthed the compressers and the solenoid
I finished tonight at 10.15pm in the dark and damp but glad i did cos all that needs to be done now is running in the 4 feeds from the battery via 4 inline fuses to the relays and a bit of tidying underneath ie touch conditions etc
Then should be ready to commence 1st pressurisation !!!
I will ad pics when i get back out there and take some
Cheers Stu

Its pic time some are not brill but the only camera i have that works is in my mob/cell

All wired up now time to fire up those comps!!!

Looking good

OHH Yeah systems working spot on :)

It was a bit late when i fired them up my kids + kids in the my street were all sleeping as it had gone 8pm but i did give it a quick press when it was at 38psi Man i cant wait to start using it properly

Good work! Love your twin tanks. That setup has plenty of Everything!

Thanks DBO yeah im pleased with how its all gone apart from one thing that is bothering me
And that is how much the the reducer and then the draincock when fully closed hang out the bottom of the lowest tank making ground clearence a poss issue
Ive been trying to find a npt brass bleed valve like our uk house radiater bleed valves but to no avail only bsp thread
I still may by a 1/2" uk rad bleed valve an have a npt dye run over the threads if that works it would mean it could live flush with bottom of the tank gaining me approx 2inches
Any thoughts ideas welcome guys

I’ve had to mix NPT and BSPT before as well because here evrythings is BSPT. The thread patterns are very close and if you use a sealant liquid like the Loctite you won’t have any issues.

There are NPT to BSPT adapters available here, we provided 1 for customer, but I have no idea where you guys might find them.

Hi DBO yeah i ordered a bspt bleed valve and ive used loctite 545 on every thread on my setup thanks again to all for the info on this great forum

Hi Dan i can get an adapter but the problem again turns into total length of adapter then valve but if i can get this bsp thread in flushwith the bottom outlet it will be happy days

Hi all
Finally got round to fitting the uk house radiater bleed valve at the week end tested it mid day sunday shut the system down with 138psi stored in the tanks
Checked it a few hours ago to find 136psi so well happy with that
Just a few pic to show what im on about

The wife cut it short but thought id upload it anyway
