just got one on ebay for $60. anyone have a write up on installing one and bypassing the push button on the side so i can just run another 12v valve from my tank to it?

good luck with that, that whistle is not a real whistle. Its main function is an emergency brake, the button on the side just releases a small amount of air to make the valve whistle.
You would pull the valve handle in either direction to release the air out of the train line to dump the air and stop the train.
Don’t think you can easily modify this for your application.

I don’t think anyone on the Horn Whistle Board will be able to help with making this whistle work for the OP.
I would hate to see it butchered in any way, it is a piece I would love to have so I could use it on the train I operate…
Then you should already know their knowledge & love for horns & whistles. If they’re unable to help or make suggestions then that’s a first for me and I don’t know where else you can go.
