I just got a set of NAthan K5LA horns and I am deciding where everything needs to go on my Ford superduty . My truck has upfitter switches I was thinking of using these to fire the compressor on and off swich and use one of the switches for the hornh button its self . Has anyone else used this method ?
I wanted to wire the new horns into the stock horn but I am worried that this will intefere with the trucks alarm system that uses the stock horn
The upfitter switches will work for the compressors but some of the switches i believe have different amp ratings. So check before connecting.
Also i wouldnt put the horn on the switches. I would only use a push button or the stock horn(works really great especially when locking truck) or use a manual valve for the best soundings.
Good luck with install and post pics when complete!!!
Welcome. I think upfitter switches supply 12V so don’t connect a line that needs to be grounded. The switch can be used to activate a relay that will ground a line.
I was thinking about wiring the horn directly into the existing horn but my concern is if the alarm goes off and it draining the battery also I am not sure If I want it to go off every time I lock my door ?
That is why I put an on off switch in line with my airchime so that in case i want my train horns silent they will be. Also in case the cop ask for me to honk my horn(which has happened in the past).
You could make it automatic stock horn only with the truck off.
Wire the solenoid valve off of the stock horn either hard wired or with a selector switch - however you want.
Just put a relay inline before the solenoid. Connect a ‘key-on’ source to the coil/trigger side of the relay.
Never thought of using a relay then when the cops pull you over simply turn the truck off in a polite way so that he can you can talk in a quiter enviorment and the horn is not able to honk
