car dies when i hit my s4s

I have a 01 grand am gt . im new to train horns . i bought jr conductor kit. 2 gal tank 280c comp. 4 s4 shockers. car dies almost everytime i hit blast the horns …any suggestions…

My guess is it dies when the compressor kicks on?

Which probably means your draw from alternator is too high for it to handle and shuts it down… ???

how is your voltage? my guess is a new battery or alternator

New battery and alternator pushing 14.7 volts. it only dies wen i hit my horn. compressor is not runnin. i have it on a toggle switch. the air solenoid valve cant pull enough power to kill my car could it?

I would think that’s highly unlikely. I wired my solenoid valve directly to the battery.

OP… so your solinoid is wired to a toggle, then where? the battery ?

Exactly.

No i was talking to OP… 01GAGT

thats odd man i
own the S4 XL my
shocker valve is
set up with with thehot wire running
from the battery

to my push botton
from the botton
to the valve and the
ground wire hookt to the negative part
of the battery
sounds electricl but
with a car like that
your wireing shud
not be bad ware do
you have your hot
wires for your tank
and valve hook in
to ?

It sounds like your car is turning off as a precaution, like a fail safe. I would wire up your valve to a different power.

Like others have asked - is the toggle wired directly to the battery?
Sounds like it’s wired to a “key on” source that may be affecting ignition or computer.

Couldn’t this be caused my a loop in the grounding causing the battery to kick off?

Elaborate on “Loop”?

I’d grab a volt meter and put it to use. And I wouldn’t use the horn anymore till you figured out whats wrong, you could damage your alt., battery, or even the electrical system.

If you mean the power line is connected to the switch and then the output from the switch is grounding out? Yeah that could do it.

01GAGT - check your lines and make sure the power line either to or from the switch is not touching any metal part of your vehicle. That could short circuit / ground out your battery. Make sure the line hasn’t rubbed bare somewhere. That may explain why it only happens when you hit the switch. Fix it before you burn something up.

Sounds like a short somewhere. My solenoid is energized by the stock horn relay. No problems here.

I’m going to have to agree here, I wouldn’t use the horns until I isolate the problem… you could toast your whole car over a short in the horns…

Are you running relays ???
