Do yall know of any way you could go to a locomotive grave yard and get some K5’s very cheap? or does this not exist at all?
I’m sure it exists, but they’re always going to be a prized item in terms of recycling so I doubt you’ll just find them sitting around on a grave yard unless they’re totally stuffed. Probably a case of being there at the right time when a locomotive comes in for recycling and grabbing them before they get refurbished or sold.
I’d try getting in touch with various salvage yards to find out how they tend to sell them. A quick google turning up the likes of:
Addlestone International Corp,
A&B Rail Services,
Peck International,
Azcon Scrap Corp,… etc.
Somehow I think you’re probably just as likely to find one on Craigs list or eBay that hasn’t been refurbished yet Heard of a few now that have been picked up for around the $300 mark. Also keep an eye out on the sales and wanted forum here:
