Compression Fittings

Just got my Shocker XL kit and have a quick question on how to properly use the compression fittings that the kit came with. I’ve never worked with them and I’m guessing that you just insert the plastic hose and it’s done?

Also there are two different size fittings and the they are slightly different. The smaller one has an orange plastic part where you would insert the hose. The bigger one doesn’t have that part. Do they work differently?

If someone can educate me on a proper use of these things, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks everyone!

compression fittings work just as they are called… As you tighten the nut, it compresses around the tube and holds on tight usually creating a great seal.

PTC - (push to connect) which i believe is the other fitting you have, is very simple to use. Just cut the tubing square and push in , done! They work with a oring on the inside and pressure kinda like a shark tooth fitting used in homes…

I have both on my truck now, and that is only because i didnt have pic readily available to me when installing my horn… now that i got it all installed, im slowly changing over to all ptc where i can , or where i know there are leaks. sometimes compression on a certain angle just never seal right…

witht he PTC you have to make sure it is pushed all the way in…

Sounds simple enough. Is it just as easy to disconnect the tubing from the fitting later on? Thanks!

PTC yes… compression , no

PTC, you pull back on the outter ring part where tubing enters and pull out.

Compression on other hand, you take it apart and the ferrel (compression ring) will be compressed on the tubing and you will have to cut it back to get to fresh tubing.

One good tip, no matter what type of fitting you use, always leave yourself 6-12" of slack tubing so if you have to take apart in future and re attach you wont come up short …
