Compressor won't stop running

Hi I have a viair tank and compressor kit. I think it is the 280a compressor. Anyway it’s been working great since I got it new two months ago and last night it started running and won’t shut off untill I turn the switch off. It seems to building air because my horns still work and I can’t hear any air leaking anywhere. Any ideas?

Welcome. Do you have an air gauge? Your pressure switch or relay might be stuck, but it’s hard to tell if you don’t know your tank pressure.

I don’t have a pressure gauge but it seems to be building the right amount of air. I was thinking it was probably the regulator as well. Is there a way I cans test it and fix it or do I need to just get a new one.

Is the relay seperate from the pressure switch? or a combined unit?

If combined, replace the whole thing.
If seperate, a gauge would help determine which one is bad.

Welcome to the forum.

Do you have a safety pop valve in the tank? Is the pressure switch at the tank? If both are true and the pop valve isn’t letting air out then there isn’t enough air getting into the tank or like you suspect, the pressure switch or relay is bad.

When compressors keep running without air getting out something will pop or break.

Make sure your leader hose isn’t leaking. That’s the braided hose connecting the compressor to the check valve (which is screwed into the tank). If air is leaking from there, you may not hear it with the compressor going.

My Viair kit did the same thing. It turned out the top of my pressure switch was leaking. I contacted viair with a copy of my receipt, and they sent me a new pressure switch no questions asked.

Yeah I failed to mention to check for leaks first.
Use a soapy water solution to check everything before throwing parts at it.
