I am trying to convert Psychoblasters 228 horns to use a Kleinn DD1 direct drive compressor. I’m not getting any sound from the horns when the DD1 spins. Any one else done this or have any ideas? The Kleinn site says the DD1 will work with their model 102 horns which has similar specs to the 228s.
Are you triggering the solenoid at the same time? I’ve never owned a set but I believe the 228’s were basically a set of Psychoblaster horns with the 228 compressor kit for air supply. They therefore should have an air solenoid at the inlet to the horns. If you’re going direct drive you won’t need the solenoid or you’ll have to make sure it’s open when you power up the compressor.
I removed the solenoid per the instructions with the DD1. You are correct, it is just the Psychoblaster horns, not the entire 228 kit. I tested the horns with just the nipple sent with the DD1 from my shop compressor and sounded good. It seems that the DD1 compressor doesn’t have enough umph to trigger the diaphragm.
Hmmm… I just had another quick look at the kit pictures it does appear like the Psychoblaster horns (ie. the V2 Direct Drive version) looks different and smaller than the ones in the 228 kit. Might well be that the bigger ones need the compressed air. Maybe someone from HB will chime in soon and clear it up for you.
Do you know how much pressure your DD pump generates?
Thank you. I’m not sure what its operating pressure is. Its hard to find specs for it. The Kleinn 102 horns look like the Psychoblasters and the operating pressures are pretty close in the specs I could find.
Welcome to the forum. The compressor you use shouldn’t matter as long as it provides the required pressure when you need it.
