So I drive a 2002 honda civic si, as you can prob see from my avatar. I’ve searched around at the different horns and everything and of course im in love with one of the biggest, k3la, and obviously it wouldn’t fit anywhere under my car. I’ve considered the risks of cutting out the spare tire area and I’m ok with it. Even with rustOleum spray, I’m sure it would still rust in the future and i can always replace that.
It was supposed to be installed yesterday with the horns facing straight down in the spare tire area. But because of the different lengths of the middle horn and the smallest horn, it would either be 4 inches off the ground… in which case i said he ll no… or it just wouldn’t fit. the smallest horn would be inside the car if it wasn’t 4 inches off the ground… ugh
so i picked up my car and all my stuff and im thinking either 2 options now.
something along the lines of this…?
how the entire trunk area was pretty much cut in half by the floor being much hire than normal. this made sense… and the guy at the audio shop that was going to do the install said he doesn’t work with metal in that way… but he called another shop that said they could do something like that for another 1500 on top of what i was already gonna pay for the install.
god at that point id rather take a welding class and do it myself…
Why cut apart the car when you have the option of the seperate brackets? Are you planning on keeping the car forever? if not , think about the resale valu and having to explain why u cut out the trunk floor, or why its pieced together back in…
mount them on the seperate, along frame , bumpers , grill , etc…Theres gotta be multiple places to find to mount them seperate.
I would rather use those brackets and mount them separate… There’s no way I’d cut an SI up lol. I know on my Accord, there’s room under the hood to mount maybe one or two horns and a couple places in the back behind the bumper. I’d try that first man!
yea im kinda leaning towards the separate manifold idea. Im pretty sure id still have to cut my car, just not as big of a hole as the other plan. id just have to learn more about this idea. would i need separate solenoids for each manifold?
also if i have spare time to purchase extra parts for that, then maybe ill sell the compressors i have (dual vair 480c) and get something at 150psi… not sure yet errrr…
but i really love that car. its my baby and i plan to drive it til it dies.
ok… get the brackets bro it will be louder and you can mount them separated just like the shockers… i have mine that way and i love it!! here is a vid… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6UBwF8sS78
I have one. Built in with a relay(its on the hornblasters site). never used no joke. I bought it, then decided to upgrade to a 480 and went to 200psi. pm me if you are interested.
i had someone assist me in purchasing parts so i’m still learning…
but im looking at the pressure switches now and it looks like my dual viair 480c is kinda stuck with 165-200psi switch. eh.
i have more time now to decide if i wanna do 150psi or 200psi so we’ll see…
I have a 480c and i run my k3la at 150 psi, it really works great and there is no reason to risk damaging the horns over a few decibels. EMail me for help! I really know a lot About this stuff. Williammonk@me.com
Well, i realize on these (most) forums that there is a huge difference of opinions. Ten people who know nothing can make a suggestion that they think is okay, and then one “senior” can make his suggestion, they are all looked at as equal. And as for the “senior” members, i do not waste hours of my life on this site trying to establish a reputation. I know how much it can help for someone to actually devote some of their time to helping you personally, and that’s all i was trying to do.
PS i am a high ranking member of the horn and whistle board forums…
Actually, no. (Being specific here)
The pressure switch is what turns the compressors OFF at any specific pressure, but it is the compressor that is rated at the maximum working pressure you determine for your use. You can indeed limit its maximum pressure by using a different (lower pressure) rated pressure switch if you desire.
hmmmm well thanx those of you that offered your help. i prob won’t need that yet until the actual install date comes. ive been busy lately with other stuff so i had to put this aside, but im still working on getting quotes around my area (san jose) and its not going that great.
i might have to drive down to so-cal area again…
and ya i think you should always take caution of what people say on the forums. you never know their background. how “senior” someone is on the forum is probably the only measurement that’s reliable here. at least thats how i see it.
but i spoke with matt a little, and id have to get the 110/145 pressure switch for my setup.
So you’re saying if I don’t have a pressure switch and just let the compressor run and run it’ll shut off at whatever the compressor is rated at? I’ve never heard of that.
