Does it truly matter which way you mount your horns?

:confused:Hey guys, i’m a noob but I need to get down to the details. Does mounting your horns forward really matter? I mean does water, dirt or debris have an effect on the horns, or the longevity for that matter? I just bought some Shockers and have to mount mine where the spare tire is now. I would love to mount two facing forward and two facing aft.

no.

Its loud reguardless… down disperses the noise all around. but if you aim them anywhere and it is loud enough to scare people/ warn people not to cut you off lol

Welcome. - What they said.
What kind of air kit and what kind of vehicle?

no.

wow those no responses helped so much guys…

You can mount the horns anyway with no problems using the shockers. They have stainless steel diaphragms so they wont rust. Just dont mount them facing straight up lol.

Also welcome…lol I agreee with brizzal on this one. No matter which direction you face them they will be loud, however facing the trumpets down will get you sound eveywhere. Facing forward gives you the opportunity to scare the s&^% out of people walking in front of you at the store or whatever. Facing them backwards is awesome for tailgators. Thats pretty hilarious when you get somebody tailgating you and they swerve when you hit the horns lol.

Thanks for all your guys’ info. I have a 2005 stock Chevy Tahoe and I just bought the Shockers S4 XL, comes with the valve, 1/2" hose and fittings. I was thinking of buying Viair 480c and going with a 5 gallon tank. Any feedback is more than welcome. I’m thinking of mounting them where my spare is now with 2 facing left and two facing right.

Sounds like a great plan - both the air package and the mounting locations.

480c is a good compressor to have along with a 165-200 press switch. And they’re going to be loud regardless. The only thing louder would be on top of the truck out in the open. my 2 480c’s fill the tank from 150 to 200 in about 45 seconds so, double that time with one. I think thats the most important thing to time, cause you almost never drain the tank on one horn blast.

^ unless you hold it down for 30 or so seconds lol

Thanks wildhorn, thats the kind of feedback i need as i’ve never had a train horn before. I’m not gonna use it on the road, just to scare the poop out of people and get a good laugh. I will upload pics when i get my setup complete.
I want it to be clean even though you will not be able to see them, i’m gonna do it right.

Your pic is very off putting. I’m not sure to be disturbed or comfortable towards it. I don’t mean to be mean, I just am very confused:confused:

On a better note, I used to have my horns behind my grille facing down…Loud and scared the poop outta everyone… Just remounted to spare tire area… 3 facing foward one on back left facing down…just as loud it seems. I feel as is its a bigger scare factor though

No problem, my philosophy is to give the pieces that no one gave to me. Cause thats all I was concerned about at the beginning and couldnt find anything on it. Also, two compressors is a heavy load on your electrical system. When those compressors kick on, they pull about 20-25 amps a piece. The stealthy approach is always better and its easier to fool the po-po when they stop you.

k3 makes more poop come out when you scare the poop out of people. My horn is facing through the grille and you can feel it in the ground. I set off car alarms in a 50ft radius. Thats all I’ve managed so far. Just testing it out at a spot I hang out at.

Keep in mind the Doppler effect also, if your honking at someone and your horns are pointed backwards, they’ll be louder for a few feet while you’re driving away/past them. Opposite is true pointing forward. Side-to-side is OK, but I think optimal is down. No matter how/where you mount them, the sound is going to disperse, resonate, etc. Train horns are so loud that normally it doesn’t matter where they’re “aimed” on a vehicle, you’re going to be heard either which way. Again, I prefer aiming them down but that’s just personal preference.

So who’s the girl in your avatar?

true that.

I havent figured out if its male or female yet.

Exactly why it’s disturbing! lol

That’s definitely a girl. She’s pretty cute too IMHO

lol cant tell due to face quality in the picture… HFFA?
