Hey guys!
I bought a rocker kit from HB about a year ago and the horns began to sound funny so after reading up a little on the forum i learned i should drain the tank.
Which i tried to do and somehow part of the drain cock just cracked off. Seems like it was rusted out. I went to home depot in search of a new drain cock and they said they do not carry them… so i found some copper plugs that may be able to screw on top of the old drain cock (which isn’t coming out now either)
Think I can use these with the pressure in the tank?
Hi and welcome to the forum. The drains can rust out quite easily even when the fittings are brass because of the high level or iron oxide in the steel of the tank.
Anyway, your best best is to replace the whole drain cock. When you say it “isn’t coming out” - you mean just the center stem? You should still be able to get a wrench on the outer hex part of the whole drain cock and just unwind it from the tank.
You can get replacements most places where pneumatic parts are sold (pipes, fittings, truck workshops etc) Where about are you - maybe some locals here can point you towards a supplier in your area. Otherwise, give HB a call and I’m sure they’ll have plenty in stock.
Thank you for the welcome! I wish i knew about the forum earlier so i could have drained my tank routinely and possibly avoid this mess lol.
I would like to replace the whole drain cock if I could as that is the most ideal situation, however, this looks like the drain cock i have and the part that broke off is the piece of metal that forms the top of the T. and now the whole part isn’t coming out, my wrench is just eating away at it.
I’m located in NYC, but i may just order it from online if I find out the correct size first.
My drain cock was constantly blowing out air today for no reason. It was hand tight and I drain it every time I use it. So while trying to investigate the prob I unplugged The power and unscrewed the drain cock completely. In doing so I saw that it was broken from the inside with no rust damage. I have had this compressor for 3 weeks now. But HB was quick to respond and very concerned and helpful. Their warranty is one of the reasons I chose HB. They said it was probably just a lemon piece from the factory and I will have the new one in the mail tomorrow. Thanks HB
