EMD Bell

Hey guys,

I saw a YouTube video of a guy with horns on his truck and an EMD bell out near a train museum near Baltimore and thought the idea was really cool.

Where and how could I get one?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Hit up your neighborhood train yar…store, at night.

I was wondering the same thing. all my railroad contracts are on the west coast. and I’m now in the mid-west.

Also does anyone know which horn SP used on passenger units? they had a different tone, than the freight units. I think some Amtrak units had it as well.

I have a 1979 F-600 Crewcab, and while it has hydraulic brakes, my parts truck is an air brake truck. so I have 6 air tanks, brackets and the engine mounted air compressor sitting in boxes… The horn is a must, but the bell would be a nice touch too.

Merry Christmas folks

Keep the stealing s#%t off this site. It is those who steal from the railroad that give us collectors a bad name. That just pisses me off. Joking or not.

I know they pop up on e-bay. And I have seen them on craigslist. One guy in California had one for sale (a bronze one) and he wanted $450 for it. The problem was that it did not have the clapper. It was just the bell. I would love to have one as well. Just keep looking.

Thanks Izzy … I guess for now I’m just gonna do a search once in a while to see what I can find. The video I’m talking about is this one, so maybe he’s part of the community and someone knows him.

Wow … you are such a Darwin Award winner it’s amazing the internet hasn’t electrocuted you yet.

Guess who else won’t be buying anything from you?

Everyone on here.

Never heard of the EMD bell. Gonna have to research that one.

Was he blowing ALL his horns in that video? It’s hard to distinguish one bell…

If you listen close enough between the first few honks you can hear it, one ring about every second or so.

Completely tongue in cheek, hence the smiley…chill. Ive honestly never even heard of someone taking poop like that off of active locomotives.

In other news, ebay, or even a buddy who works on a railroad might have a line on one, never know.

Haha I get it. It’s an actual bell. Not a horn bell - a ringing bell. I can hear it in the video.

I feel dumb, but I didn’t know. LOL

LOL, my fault! I should have said it was a ringing bell.

I’ve looked at some of the websites where these EMD bells are for sale and I’m guessing they are collectors items, much more than the M series bells. The cheapest I’ve found so far was $1,900.00

IIRC they are about 12 inches, early ones were bronze, later ones were steel. the early ones do sound better, but the steel aint bad either. I have no idea how much air they require.

Well, this comment really got me cunfused so I started reading.
Here’s a bunch of info:

Oh, and it mentions 133psi.

133 lbs, nice. I need one now…lol

I have 3 of them. EMD stands for Electro-Motive Diesel. They are heavy bells.

3 of them @ ~2k each?
Damn Gina!

Well probably all together. But you can get them for a few hundred a piece if you get a steel bell. Bronze = bigger cabbage. You want to find one that has the graham salem air clapper.
