Engine driven compressors

Okay so who has done this?

I’m looking at the Kilby Enterprise AirBoss system, although they don’t have one for the 6.7L Cummins, which is what I need it for since I want the K3LA on my truck and I’m looking at an 8 to 12 gallon tank @ 150 PSI under the truck’s bed.

Obviously I don’t want to deal with electric driven compressors since I’ve also got an airbag suspension on my truck for my RV/toy hauler so if I need air I don’t want to wait. This is what I’m looking at/for:

Now the kit they DO have will fit on my '06, but because it belongs to the wife and I’m using my truck as the tow rig, I’m not planning on putting the K3LA on it so it’s pointless … although she’s expressed interest in a set of Shockers.

Thoughts/ideas?

I thought about getting one of these, but the “Complete” kit would be like $1100… I can’t afford $1100 for a compressor right now… HB should carry them  I think they would sell some of them… or have them “Special order” perhaps?

give hornblasters a call 1-877-209-8179 they may help u

This is the one I will buy when my Viair compressors bite the dust…

VMAC Underhood Compressor for Powerstroke 6.4L

Anyway to find out their prices?

Call them…

VMAC

I’ll see if I can have my wife do it. I’m overseas, so I would have to get up in the middle of the night to make a phone call because of the time change.

But the paycheck does help with the toys …

They do make one for the 6.7l Cummins. I would guess that they are probably about $1000.

I priced these for kicks & grins once upon a time… if memory serves, they were around $7500.

You ready to pay cash or charge???

:D:D

I’ve seen them for about $750 - 1500 (Depending on where you look…

$7500? That is outragous (spelling?)

If they are $7500, then that would explain why there is very little information about them online. I don’t know what it costs to manufacture something like that, but $7500 is ridiculous!

There ya go… $814.75

I like that VMAC kit better. I’ll see if I can get a price from them. I’m gonna be doing enough fab work to get those K3’s on my truck and I don’t want the compressor to be a point of failure since the serpentine belt runs everything now-a-days.

Kris

What you probably saw was a used compressor alone but they need an additional system to separate the oil from the discharge and return it to the compressor.

Vmac’s (Canadian) or Vanair’s (American) are expensive.

Was not used, well… maybe, but it is an old air conditioning air compressor… I think

Anyway the VMAC air compressor was quoted to me today at $10,300 for the 70CFM compressor. So I would imagine the 150CFM compressor would be more, if not double.

10 grand? That’s half the note for my '08. Gonna have to pass on that one, LOL !!!

Kris

They’re great if you need to run a jackhammer…lol

I told you they were BANK!!!

LOL

Plus, your engine likely could not handle it… they wouldn’t even sell it to you unless you had an HD truck with a powerplant large enough and approved for it. Like Dan said, the compressor is only a part of the total system.

Here’s a reply from them about transplanting onto a non-approved truck:

Thank you for your interest in VMAC products. I have attached the brochure you requested, as well as an application list showing which vehicles are currently supported.

VMAC has never made a kit for your vehicle, and we recommend that you do not try to adapt one from another vehicle – many have tried and the only fairly successful adaptations are from similar year / chassis / engine combinations. None of our existing systems are even close to your truck.

If your vehicle has PTO provision (probably not) or you can find a hydraulic clutch pump (Chelsea and Muncie are manufacturers), then our Predatair system is a possible alternative. I have also included a brochure describing this.

They have a kit for my Dodge Cummins 6.7L diesel, and looking at how they have their kit setup I can understand why it ain’t cheap. It’s a very high end kit if you look how they have the oil filter, etc., together in their setup but it’s way out of my price range.
