Just ordered a set out the shocker 228. Question is how hard is the installation and how long does it take for someone who has never dealt with train horns before? I orderded them from PB missions because they had a cheaper price and free shipping.
You should have called up Hornblasters, I am sure they would have given you the same deal if not better.
That PB missions website looks really weak…
My mistake. Now that you mention that, I know that you’re right. But they had the 228 shockers and free shipping and I didn’t have to pay through google.
But how is the installation on theses horns, time wiser and difficulty?
That is a very difficult question to answer, every installation is unique.
Depends on who is doing the installation, everyone has different abilities.
Depends on the vehicle, is it a tight space for fitting or do you have all the room you need for an easy install.
Do you know how to read a schematic?
How good are you with wiring?
For me, I am just a simple salesman, so I definitely needed help w/ the wiring.
I mounted the horns, ran the airline, mounted the tank and compressors, then had a friend help me w/ the wiring.
Now that it is done and I can see what was done, it is not that hard…
First you should look through this forum for ideas on installs from other people.
Then make a plan for your install.
Go over everything several times and try to pre-fit everything BEFORE doing any cutting or drilling.
Take your time and you will be happy oin the end…
It may take awhile if you DIY the first time but many have done it. If it gets too difficult try an air suspension installer in your area.
I just finished my install on my 2010 Ram Crew Cab. Overall, it took me about 5-6 hours, but I wanted to do it right, so I took my time. My horns are installed in the little “nook” on the drivers side right under the rear passenger, which involved removing the seat…little things like that take time. I had to order an mini fuse “add-a-circut” because they were out of them. I wanted a “stealthy” install and all thats visible is the compressor which has a plywood box around it. I also used a trans brake/line lock/nitrous button–got it from Ebay and it it tucks neatly into the center console UNDER the center front seat–more stealthy! I really need to take some pics.
Anyway, here is a schematic (I work better from pictures) for hooking up your horns using a momentary or toggle switch. You don’t need to use the extra “fuse block”, but it may come in handy for any future additions.
How did u get on?
As someone said earlier, approx 5-6hrs to install, but each one can be different.
1st ever (seige 3’s) 2hrs
My first proper install (228 kit) two days
2nd install (K3’s) took 6 weekends & numerous evenings
3rd & current install (540xl) 2 weekends solid:D
