I’m installing my first set of “AIR HORNS” aside from having Hella Triple Horns with Direct Drive Compressors… Maxing out on small horns instead of “TRAIN HORNS” for now
I already have my horns, REALLY hope I like them…
They are not HB, so please keep it courteous.
I like the sound of “TRUCK” horns and wanted to give these a go…
KLEINN Model 99’s and 102’s:
Running 4 horn sets to equal two of these - one on each side - across the grill area of my car - just side by side as opposed top and bottom - which may not fit:
KLEINN Model 141’s
All of this still really doesn’t take too much space so I am all for it until I outgrow them.
Plus I have nagging wife who worries bc we live in Heart of NYC and cops put down their donuts to write tickets every once in a while and they like my car (FML)
Installing a 5 gallon LRD tank in the spare tire well - think it just fits.
Going to run VIAR Dual 480c kit
What do I need to finish off this install ? ? ?
Need details - bc I didn’t want the kits KLEINN offers; for when/if I decide to upgrade later. The horns come with 1/4; but the tank come with 1/2…
Really need detailed instructions on what else and the WHY…
It may seem like common sense to you bc your in the know;
but I am not and therefore it is not common sense to me yet.
(Kind of like when @ work & someone tells me XYZ is wrong with their computers)
BTW, I’m taking them to an installer but want to bring everything with me so I only pay for labor and not inflated parts costs.:eek:Hate when they try that nonsense. (SMDH)
Thanks to all that help…
I’ll post pics and Video/sound clips once it’s all installed.
Really hoping this all works out to my liking. Hope it also helps anyone else who has limited space or favors a different sound than the norm…I am definitely not “THE NORM”
So out of those horns, which ones are you mounting? Does each one already come with a valve?
Do you have a plan for fittings? Maybe run a single large airline to the front. Then split it with a manifold or ‘tee’ or ‘cross’ fitting. If all the tank ports are 1/2" you’ll need some reducer bushings for leader hoses, draincock, safety valve, pressure switch…
The air kit should have everything. Although it’s nice to add a gauge - even if it’s mounted on the tank.
I am mounting 4 sets of horns… One long & one short on each side of grill.
These are equal to 2 sets of the quad horns - just laid out side by side. They come w. 1/4" valves from what I know. (pics above)
No real game plan as of yet; which is exactly why I asked for pointers. I want to get a plan together w. everyone’s guidance.
I’m thinking 1/2" to 1/4" reducer would make the most sense. The tech support @ KLEINN told me it wasn’t worth the money to move to 1/2" fittings; not much difference in performance.
Wouldn’t the best way be to run a single hose for each horn as opposed to splitting it ??? OR, does it make more sense to run 1/2" hose x 2 from tank and split it @ the horns to 1/4" hose to each… ???
I want electric drain kit since I won’t be able to get to the tank after the install; I’m guessing from HB unless there are others that are better quality+price/ VALUE. Any competition I should look into???
Probably do the Hb gauge somewhere up front too… Thanx…
You don"t need to run all seperate lines. You could run 1 or2 lines and split up front.
Count your tank ports and count up everything you need to mount.
Some people wing it & make trips to the hardware store. You won’t have that luxury so maybe make a sketch and plan it all out.
LOL…
I’m sure I will, my pal is mounting K3’s in his truck which I’m sure I’m gonna envy as soon as my ears stop ringing…
Like I stated before, I have to take baby steps even if it costs me more in the long run; WIFE louder than LESLIE or NATHAN when she starts her NAGFEST…:eek::mad:
So I tested out my KLEINN 102 horns (2 sets) and was not disappointed @ all. Now it’s time to stock up and get it installed. Have the smaller ones on the way (FEDEX) and then I need to knock out this list… So anxious…!!
Have to change the photo above of the tank as it is not exactly accurate. Tank will have 4 ports total (1/2’)
I’m guessing this means:
1 port being split to Blow off Valve & electric drain
2 ports for 1/2" DOT airline to be split in front to 4 horns
(How many feet of airline would you assume if the tank is being mounted in the spare tire well and all horns in grill?? Car is 14ft in total length)
1 port split for Dual 480C’s on one 1/2" air line
Does this sound about right. As previously stated, I wanna bring everything to the installer ready to mount, no extras…
Now, what about relays, reducers/couplers, tees, anything else ??? How many??
Where?? Why?? Thanx for the help; still a noob… I’ll pay it forward with the next enthusiast that needs help, promise…
One thing I notice is that all 4 ports are lines up on the same side.
You want the drain to be at the bottom, so that means all the ports are at the bottom where they can collect water. That’s really not a good thing.
Realistically the water would get blown out through the horns anyway.
Yes, IMO the drain kit would pointless since no water would build up in the tank anyway.
Now the pancake tank is a different story. I see a port on the bottom for a drain.
So yeah if you could fit the tank with elbow fittings that would work.
It’s going to be tough to figure every single fitting beforehand, but it can be done.
Basically you can dry fit everything to make sure it all fits the way you envisioned.
In fact, I’d leave it all fitted together when having the job quoted. Show em how easy it will be - not much to figure out except some hoses & wiring.
Just added another two horns to the mix…
I see you guys always posting about how you would like to add 2 horns pointing to the rear; so I did… Putting the Longer Horn sets x 4 up front now
& the 2 Smaller Horn sets x 2 in the rear Bumper
… Just needed some extra tubing and reducers…
Will be going to the installer soon and then daring someone to cut me off…
Really hope this all turns out right and thanks to everyone who gave me some input to help me get it going…
