Good idea?

i have a set of k5las:D, now what if i took a compressor that pumps 150psi and hooked directly to the horns with no air tank:eek:… would that work?

no, it wouldnt, u need air to blow the horn, the compressor wont have enough CFM’s to even make the horn toot at all.

bad idea

It’d have to be a huge compressor to pump out a constant 150psi ???

It’s not just pressure, but the volume of air needed to get the horns to sound (measured in CFM, or cubic feet of air per minute).

If a compressor, say one of the Viair or Air Zenith models, puts out 2.35 CFM at less than 5 PSI, and a horn needs something like 15 to 25 CFM @ 150 PSI, you can see why a tank is needed.

so what if i was to use a compressor with 25cfm or more?

Lol I would imagine u would need a very large wallet.

Thought I read that a K3 consumes 90 CFM.

better off just getting a tank

My bad, you’re right … Googled it.

Even at this rate of consumption, you would need a small nuke plant to power enough compressors to generate 90 CFM @ 120 PSI to get the horns to sound.

It would be easier to just get a tank.

a tank/compressor can go as low as 200 dlrs used…your looking at over $15k to try and run a horn from just compressors.

Dito to all of the above unless you’re willing to pull a trailer with a diesel driven screw type compressor that can run a jackhammer.

Or get one of these Tanks…full of air lol

^^ha that’s awesome! Just think how long it’d take to change a flat tire on that thing.
