I just went down and pick up my K5 from the yard the guy sold them to me for $250 bucks. But the only down fall is the base was cracked from someone trying to take them so he trashed the base but gave me the horns.
trashed the manifold part? still a nice deal if the horns still work!! you should get the brackets if they work
Man I’m jealous! That is exactly the type of deal I would like to find.
Is it a K5-A? What bells?
Yeah, thats an okay deal, I wouldve asked if he still had the base anyways though. What bells you get?
the base was gone when i went to pick them up today. bells 12345 so i think its a American. i took them apart to look at them the insides look great
Should be 3A & 4A to be American tuned.
I’m trying to find a salvage/scrap/recycling yard around here somewhere.
it took me a while to find a guy that was cool with it i ride by like twice a month to see if hes got any but i always give him some money so he will save some for me
I was wondering if you had to ‘know’ somebody.
UP headquarters is in Omaha, but I don’t know what we have for yards.
So do they need a bunch of cleanup? Are you going to paint them?
the p3 i got the first time were like brand new just a little dirty but the k5 i just got they painted them and it was all running but hey thats them im goin to try and fix the runs and repaint them
sweet deal!wish i could find yard like that!
Man, even if I knew where a yard was, I dont think I would have the balls to go ask anyone for a horn. i mean, are they posed to be selling them? Because it seems like they sure know what to ask for em.
With all these used horns for sale from multiple sellers on ebay, there has to be a trick.
They just know where to go and what to say. Maybe they just have a good hookup.
It would be cool if somebody with some knowledge on the subject could start a thread called “How to find & buy a used Nathan Airchime”.
Even tips on finding a yard or what type of yard would be helpful.
What to say… What NOT to say…etc
I doubt anyone getting them would do that lol… the people who get them sell them so that would cost them money to tell their secrets. I can tell you this much, most times, the people that get them bulk buy them at discounted prices and sell them for a little more.
Yeah, no kidding.
You know the big players aren’t giving up any secrets or sources.
But, if there are some average Joes who have done this, maybe they could help.
theElItEone: Got any pics of your new horns or their new home (vehicle)?
Every great now and then you’ll get lucky. But for most of us its a game that takes years to develop trustworthy contacts.
There are few who get them right from the yards. There are only a handful of people in the country who buy from the sources of these horns and sell to people like me.
When you factor in time, research, money wasted on shady people there isnt a great price to be made.
If anyone notices prices on say a k5 will go one week for 650 dollars. Then another it will be 750. Well for guys like me sometimes I will pay 400 for a k5 other times I will pay 550 for it. So my pricing changes. Its impossible in a used market to keep steady pricing.
Other factors like condition when we get them, work requested, broken parts all take into account the final price you see on ebay.
Sometimes I make good money, other times I am lucky to make 50.00 dollars.
But one thing is for certain. Most guy’s including me will never give up there sources. Same as the sources wont give up who they sell too. I’m lucky I only deal with 2 people. Both are really trust worty and have been in this horn business for a long time.
I know alot of people could care less if a horn is stolen, but for us people that are in the horn market we care a great bit and go great lengths to make sure nothing we get is hot.
When you buy from a real trustworthy seller, who is found from doing your research, you will pay a higher price. If people continue to buy and support those who steal horns eventually it will put trustworthy sellers out of business.
I want Nissan R35, but I cant afford one now, so I save money for it. Train horns are the same thing. Not everyone can afford them, so alot resort to stealing them.
Thank you very much for that response.
You are the main person I’ve been considering for my purchase.
You frequent this forum and seem to do quality work.
That little bit of insight actually makes me feel better.
I’ll be in touch with you in the near future.
IT distiguishes the boys from the men. I mean REAL Train/Air Horn enthusiasts go through unthinkable measures to acquire these horns. Its a passion sport if you will. The return isnt always grand but the knowledge, respect and consideration behind each sale, purchase and acquisition goes a long way. Curt Said it best. “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.” Anyone with this mode of thinking is not a horn buyer, he’s a horn investor and humble genius.
That is an amazing deal!
