On a side note after some looking it seems that a true k3 is chimes 1, 2, 4a. Mine is 1, 1L, 2. I think it sounds good though. Still trying to find what chimes are on the K5. I would be thrilled if the 3 I have are included in the 5
Ps, the manifold has two blank covers on it, one with a gasket and one without. Where could I track down a gasket or would a piece of rubber cut in the proper shape be ok?
Will work on a video as soon as possible!!! I’m itching to go out and hook it up but 10:00pm + middle of development = not so good haha
So what your saying is:
K5HLA= 1L,1,2,3A,4A
K5HL= 1L,1,2,3,4
Please correct me if I’m wrong about this next part,
The “H” in those names means its a High Profile Mount/Manifold
The “A” means its American tuned
What does the L mean??
Any good place to find parts/additional chimes? I did find a “Micro Procession” website but the don’t specify 3 vs 3a. They have two different 3’s, both having a different Hz level. Same goes for the 4’s
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn and my search-fu is really bad when it comes to searching on forums haha
K5HL means the chord the horn produces is lower pitched, giving it a deeper sound and that its not an American tuned horn. A good example would be the Canadian tuned Amtrak horns.
K5HLA is a deeper pitched American tuned horn.
Individual bells can be found on eBay and Amazon, or you can look up the hornwhistleboard forum (this is where the real train horn enthusiast hang out, as they restore them and have the annual battles).
The L is a lower pitched horn. The highest pitch (5 bell) is replaced with a lowest pitch (1L bell). The 3a and 4a are lower pitched if Micro Precision doesn’t specify.
