Has anyone ever.....

Ok as soon as the rain dries warms up I’m gonna try this

Everyone removes their spare to mount tanks or horns there.

Has anyone tried making like a mounting board or simply a piece of plywood. To mount all the tanks and horns or comps etc. And wind it up like a normal spare??? As long as there’s a lock. And it ends up nice and tight. What’s the downside. Itd be so convenient to maintain and remove or anything. Again as long as it’s lockable and completely secure. It should be able t hold the weight. Maybe even add a couple securing clamps so it cant swivel or bounce. Let me hear your comments. Or maybe this is an obvious old idea

I had thought about that but decided I dont want to try and figure out te security side of it because if you dont get it right, all your stuff will be gone. Loo

Exactly I’m really considering it. But its sorta risky. I’m thinking I’d add a couple of back up secure points. Like locks or brackets. But it still be easy to remove. The factor tire crank would make it really easy to remove and or mount

If they lower the hole thing by the tire holder, then all they half to do is cut the cable and walk away.

Thats a simple fix. There are dozens of different ways to lock your spare tires. They would work. Or I could just add a lock. Plenty of easy to foolproof it

I am going to build a bount for my k5s and put my 8 1/2 gal tank to one side or the other of the horns. If I run the tank from front to back of the truck on the side of the horns I have about 35" of length and the tank I am getting is 32" long and 12.5" tall with the “feet”. I will probably mout the compressors to the outside of the frame on both sides( running dual compressors) and run the air inlet lines up behind the tail lights to keep from having any issues with water.

That’s the beauty of this idea. You can just fit the largest piece of plywood or metal or whatever. And sit it upright on a work bench. Or even in the back of the truck and lay everything out however you want. Instead of on your back face up to thick framing to drill through and holding up tanks or horns to mount.

Someone has done it on here. I forgot the name. He had it on his roof rack basket

This is the pic of my spare tire mount. If someone wants those horns they are going to have to steal the whole truck to have enough time to rip them off. That truck is no longer mine I sold it sunday to my little brother. But I removed the horn

You sold your Cummins? Whatcha getting to replace it?

We did a trade. He had 2005 5.9 drw qc 4x4 that he gave me on trade. He got a heck of a deal. Mine had a little over 60k and this one has 142k but still strong as heck. I’m going to trade it in in a couple more months. Either a 6.7 megacab or a dmax.

This is what he’s going to put on it now since I took my k5 off. But he wants a different type of mount for removing them and making recordings…etc

Wait. So was that set up in the first picture just mounted in the spare tire location. Or was it actually hoisted in to place by the spare tire whinch That compartment has loads of potential. And I figure why not take advantage of the removable possibilities
