Having a problem with fuses

Ok I see. I thought maybe something was possibly wriggling & touching while driving.

So if it happens when you’re sitting and not on the 1st fill, it sounds heat related.
Something is heating up and drawing more current or more likely heating up, expanding, and shorting out against something else.

Sounds like your original wire/cable from the battery to the amp is fine like you say. It’s between the fuse & the compressor. Do you run a relay? They can be bad.

It would be nice to know the voltage at the amp and compressor.

  • but always fills up fine the first time.

If it blows the fuse on restart, it could be the check valve in the leader hose isn’t closing properly. If there’s high pressure against the head, you will have hi amperage restarts, which nearly always blows the fuse.

Try replacing the leader hose/check valve assembly.

That’s why they pay Lance the big bucks…lol

I didn’t see my e-mail that someone had responded, sorry.

Is this something I should contact hornblasters about(a new part that needs to be sent?) I don’t know much about the whole horn setup, I had Midas install them. Something I can buy from a local hardware store to test this out?

I live in MD and was blasted by the bad snow storm and haven’t had any chances to look at anything.

“Try replacing the leader hose/check valve assembly.”
I’ll take it to a shop and tell them that this was suggested and see what happens.

try removing the compressor, test it alone with a 20 amp fuse, make sure you have it grounded very good, see what it does? it may be an internal issue? good luck bud.

Use a 20 if you have a 18 just go over never go under

It’s finally normal weather here(southern MD snow storm) and time to seriously get this working, because it hasn’t been right since I bought it.

First I went to Home Depot, which told me to go to NAPA which had me go to a custom truck place which had me go to a 18 wheeler supply store trying to get this fixed and no one was really too much help.

I’d assume the leader hose is the steel braided one going from the compressor to the tank. Is the check valve a part of the hose or what (maybe a picture of it would help me best,) and would it be something I could buy cheap locally instead of trying to get the part replaced with hornblasters/viaircorp?

Thanks in advance.

These are only 20 buck.

Pick which size you have.

Thanks, I’ll have it ordered today and update you guys when I test it out.

If it isn’t one problem it’s another =[

Got the new check valve installed and hopefully it’s working or was the fix to my initial problem.

Now the tank wont fill at all. The compressor will just stay on forever and when I hit my switch for the valve to open for the horns, nothing happens (besides me hearing it click open.) I was thinking that maybe the valve was stuck open letting air out of the tank through the horns as soon as it comes in, but I checked for that by taking one of the 4 hoses to the horns out and feeling for air. Was the check valve supposed to be installed directly on the tank, or the compressor? The compressor keeps running, so this air has to be going somewhere right? Don’t feel any types of leaks at all in the leader hose and if it was leaking as fast as it was filling up, I believe we should feel something somewhere in the trunk. Tried new check valve as well as the old one.

Maverick where do you have the air filter for the compressor mounted?

Everything is inside of the trunk.

Alright. I was asking because I recently had the same problem with my 380C compressor blowing fuses. I checked my ground and power wire, replaced the check valve in the leader hose, replaced the pressure switch and the thing kept blowing fuses until one day it wouldnt run at all. So i took the compressor apart and it was full of water and completely fried. Turns out my air filter which was mounted under my truck up above the fuel tank tucked into the frame rail where I thought it would be dry was getting wet and putting water into the compressor.

I have now been without my horns for a few months but I think I am going to purchase a 480C this weekend…cant wait.

I’m glad you figured out what the problem was with yours. My problem doesn’t seem to be the fuses anymore, as the tank wont even fill now to let the compressor have to restart. When the leader hose was put back on the compressor and air tank, it was over tightened and had a small kink, but I can still see clearly through the hose, so I would think it should still be filling up the tank but maybe just a little slower.

Is it putting any air in the tank?
Hate to ask the obvious, but is the check valve going the correct direction?

Ya since no air is going into your tank but the compressor is running I would check the check valve. Maybe even remove the leader hose from the compressor and see if any air is coming out of the compressor discharge.

Just spent a little more time trying to figure it out and got it. The check valve was going in the right direction, it’s just that the new valve seemed to have been a dud. Had the hose from the the compressor but not hooked up to the tank and no air could come out. Put the old CV back on and it worked fine. Called HB support and they are sending me 2 check valves which I’ll have tomorrow.

So you put the old one back on…and now will it blow the fuse again?
Just curious…

Yes, it will fill up and blow the fuse on restart most of the time (although every now and then it will refill it.)
