Help convincing dad.

Fist off I would like to thank all of you guys for this wonderful forum. I have learned so much in the past couple of days.

So I decided that I wanted to do something different on my truck that no one else had. And of course since this is a train horn forum, I wanted to put on a train horn. I decided that the shocker classic 228vx kit would be my best bet. Instead of just ordering it I thought I would run it by my dad just to make sure he didn’t have any objections. Sadly he did and he doesn’t think I need to spend $500 on something that probably wouldn’t be used that often. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would convince him to let me buy them?

Thanks,
Maverick

At least with a real train horn, its a good investment. Sometimes after enjoying your kit for a long while its value remains close to the same as what you paid.for.it. Also, its a good lesson in compressed air, electricity, and plumbing! And you won’t use it, you will play with it! Its a toy!

If he thinks it won’t get much use, you must assure him that you will blow up your whole town multiple times a day. Problem solved!

Would he let you put 500 into a stereo? It’s the same thing. We want to be different and have something cool that draws some attention.

If he just doesn’t “get” customizing vehicles or you “have better things” to do with your money, I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe talk him into a compromise for a smaller kit. Rocker kit?

Welcome.

he will have just as much fun as you with it. You can’t blast a loud horn and not smile.

Tell him it is a safety issue. With these horns, you will be noticed. Tell him many times you got cut off driving, you blasted your horn, and nothing. The horns you will be getting will be at least 2 times louder, if not more. I don’t know if it’s a good idea to show him a YouTube video of best of train horn scares… Good luck, cause I see your father’s point of view… that’s a lot of money for horns.

Welcome! My dad loves to ride with me and always push my button haha. Once it’s installed trust me you will use it.

Might be a bit late, but maybe convince him to get you an air kit first (e.g. 5 gallon kit) so you can have on-board air to pump up tires, air suspension etc. Its pretty useful to have high pressure air on a truck in particular. Just save up and add a set of Shockers later on, which don’t cost much once you have all your air system installed.

My dads first impression of my horns was, “Why on earth would you want something like that?” Once installed, he borrowed my truck and drove around town scaring the hell out of people with it! now he is gonna get a set of shockers for his Lexus. I am thinking of upgrading to some Nathan’s in the future.

Welcome. I’m not sure about shockers but people always seems to be interested in Nathan or Leslie horns.

I have a K3LA on my truck with plans to upgrade to a K5LLA … my wife has already claimed the K3, and its not even off the truck yet.

First post here, but I would agree that you’re really installing onboard air, not just horns. There are some interesting things you can do with that. You’ll also learn a great deal about air systems and the electrical side. I used my dads farm shop to install mine, and he enjoyed helping out.

Welcome. If you want do more with your compressed air system, get an Oasis XD3000 or do even more with the XD4000.
