So ive been waiting for somewhat a decent day weather wise and time off from work to install my DDM HID kit in my fogs…
So since i was off today and the weather was somewhat nice i got to it… of course half way thru it starts snowing like a SOB and winds blowing… but anyways…
I mounted up the ballast out of way , secured all wires well , did not touch bulbs with fingers… Cleaned up all my tools , cranked up the engine and turned on the fog button, NO WORKIE! So i thought maybe because its so cold out it takes a min for ballast to kick on… well after 10min it still didnt work
The only thing i altered or changed that it didnt say in directions was i put some dielectric grease on the terminal between factory harnesss fog wire and the kit wire… From what i heard in past this grease made a better seal / connection…??? Could this be interferring with the power / stopping it from conecting? or is it something else ?
The button in truck lights up as usual for turning them on… I was too damn cold to start with the multimeter and or checking fuses… so hopefully someone else has experienced this or has a tip??
I went with the DDM kit because of a lot of recommendations …
BTW- the kit i bought was the 55w 6000k
Any help greatly appreciated!
edit- looking thru the instructions some more, (instructions are on a small piece of paper and has like 4 sets of diff style lights / installs… )
They are talking about attaching black wire / and grounding it … there was no other wires coming out of this kit , nor is there anyplace to mount one… The ballast did have a hole in the one “wing” sticking out that looked like it was there for a screw to mount it , but it came with no screws jsut the double side tape… could a screw possibly go in there into frame and ground it???
Well I went to radio shack and told the guy my situation and he agreed that the dielectric grease was not allowing contact… so i got some elctronics cleaner in a pressurizzed can theat i will spray it all out and use a tooth brush to get in there… Then i will heat gun it and dry it all out… if that dosent work , i dont know wtf to do…
I have a 2004 DuraMax with DDM Head Light and Fog . I Bet You have them Plugged in wrong. The DDM Kit is for most Imports… Check the Polarity!!! I know on the Head Light the tab did’nt watch up. Good Luck Jake aka Desert Dogg:cool:
Hmmmmm, i figured the tab was to make sure u are lining up correct… ther was a tap on top and the notch on bottom, so it can only go one way… otherside you gotta cut them off to turn them…
which kit did u put in your fog? also was the tab wrong side/ thanx
Don’t Cut Them Just try to reverse them. I think I have the H 10 in the fog lamp.
Look at DDM website for installs they just updated there web Page. Hope this Helps . I know my tabs don’t line up . Good Luck Jake
If you install your HID kit and they do not turn on you may have reverse polarity. What this means is the power and ground wires are your vehicles stock harness are reversed. What you will have to do is plug the harness connector into the ballast backwards. You will be plugging in the connector from your car into the kit backwards. This will not harm the vehicle or the kit.
Note: Reverse Polarity is an issue with the cars wiring not the HID kit. Some cars come from the factory wired in an orientation that is reversed when compared to the HID kit. When using stock halogen bulbs, polarity has no effect, therefore, some manufactures will have the power and ground wires opposite of the HID kit. Some manufactures will have reverse polarity more then others. A lot of GM models have reverse polarity. Our 55w HID Kit is not recommended for smaller fog light housings because they tend to concentrate a large amount of heat in a small area
to confirm if it is indeed reverse polarity without taking out the multimeter, unplug your ballasts, get your stock bulbs and plug them in. (no need to take everything out. just make sure nothing is touching the halogen bulb when it lights up or ask someone to hold it to keep clear of anything when you turn it on) if they light up as normal then reverse polarity is indeed the case.
not sure what your plug looks like if it can be plugged in backwards but if they say that it’s possible then it could be it.
i just put DDM in the heads and fogs on my new cobalt ss, check the cord that plugs from your cars plug to the ballast. if it doesnt work one way flip it and try the other way or line up black with black
Got em working … Problem turned out to be the plug had reverse polarity… So i had to turn em upside down even tho the notch part with nub would not line up and it pushed in kinda tuff but it works great! Someone else on another forum recommended this and i thought he was busting my balls, lol!
Thanx for the help! These things are so nice and brights… I am suprised that the amt of heat in there isnt anywhere near the amt that the silverstars halogen put out…
At first i was worrried the 55w kit was to high for the fogs, but it is barely warm! I only did a short test drive around block tonight but tomorrow after work will show true test!!
