Help horn just blows air....hissing sound

okay i have had a train horn on my truck before…installed perfectly it worked and was nice and loud!

But i needed an upgrade so i bought a new train horn…just the trumpet set…no compresser because i already have a compressor

So i take the old one off and put the new one on…plug everything in correctly and put teflon tape on the air valve thing…and im good to go…

Press the button to make train horn go off…hissssss

Makes a hissing sound like air just coming out…whats the problem?

Please help!

Make sure the diaphram is still in good condition…

sounds like there is no diaphram period

When you put it all back together, did you install the valve the correct direction?
There should be a flow direction arrow on the body of the valve.

Sounds like a diaphram problem. Pull the back caps off and then also as e2e said check the valve for the right direction unless it is mounted on the trumpets itself. If solenoid is mounted wrong way it may not fully open.

i didnt install it my brother did and he knows just about everything about cars and mechanical stuff, he has installed two on his truck and they work find and he also installed the one on my truck before and i replaced the old one with this one to get an upgrade…but the hissing sound!!

here we go guys, i made a little video of the horn going off and the sound it makes

Ok so the valve is not on backwards - i assumed a different style solenoid valve.

Maybe there’s junk in the valve so it can’t open all the way. Or possible some teflon tape covered the end while assembling?? IDK

I don’t know anything about those horns. Like the other guys suggested - can you make sure there are diaphrams in there?

I will for sure check and i will get back! Thanks for the help guys

x10000 on checking for diaphragms.

look down the trumpets and see if u see a shiny flat metal piece…

here i took some picture of inside the horn to see if you can tell
i just havent had the chance yet to take the horns off and look inside for the diaphram

im seeying diaphragms…

take the valve off the horn and attach a air blow gun to the horn and blow it in…

be careful and cover your ears tho in case it does sound…

im thinking u have faulty valve.

Okay good ill try and do that tomorrow, ill let you know
Is it possible like the diaphrams go bad? Or something stuck in them or something like that?

diaphragms do go bad after to much psi going through them… was this a new horn? used?

This was a used but the previous owner said it worked lol i know that people can lie but what are the chances it being blown?

Yeah, you can see em in there…unless it’s the shiny insides of the back caps.
As long as they’re in there, you wouldn’t think they’d all be bad.
I’m with Silvy - it’s something to do with the valve.

Alright I’ll check that bad boy out tomorrow…I’m so freaking eager to hear these horns go offffff

any luck using a air blow gun on horns to test?

I a actually gonna work on it today have busy with fishing tournaments… won 2 out of 4:-) lol but ya ill give ya an update late today or tomorrow morning
