I just received my shocker kit from a guy off craigslist. It had some rust in the tank and lines. Can I just rinse them out with water? Also one of the ends of the horns is bent a little around the flare and I was wondering if it would make any difference in performance? Gonna be hooking it up this weekend hopefully.
rust is pretty normal for those airtanks when not drained, how old did he say the tank was? Can you take a pic of the horn with the bend?
He didn’t say how old it was. Its the smallest horn that’s bent. Here is a link:
Is it OK to rinse the lines and tank out with water? Will it affect the pressure switch?
No the water wont hurt anything, as for the bend, it should not affect the sound, it looks like he had it to close to his exhaust pipe or something hot.
He had them mounted on the side of a flush tool box in the bed of his truck in between the box and bed. Which relay should I get? Its the viair 20005 kit with the 280c comp. Both wires on the compressor are red and both wires on the valve are gray. Can someone help me out with a diagram please? He has the red wire on the compressor connected to one red wire on the pressure switch. Is the other a ground?
this manual utilizes the viaair 20005 air kit.

The valve wires do not matter.
Dang - ^^ that doesn’t even show a relay.
On the Viair site they all show a relay - even the light duty compressors.
20005 uses the 280C which draws 18 amps. Here’s the viair diagram w/ 40amp relay.

Sorry but rinsing a rusted tank with water will defeate the purpose since water causes rust lol.invest in a stainless tank.
So tell me if I’m wrong. I will need a 40 amp 12v relay and a fuse for the power wire correct? Just trying to get my stuff straight so I can get it all at once.
Sounds good to me. You shouldn’t need any bigger than a 30amp fuse.
Another question. He has the hot wire on the compressor hooked up to one of the red wires on the pressure switch. There is only two red wires coming from the pressure switch so what do I do about a ground? Thanks
Is it one of these pressure switches?
If so, your trigger wire (from your ignition source) will go into one side of the switch - then the other side of the switch goes to the relay - then ground the relay.
Yeah that’s it. I rinsed my tank out with some simple green that I got from work and it got most of the rust out. I have everything to hook them up now except a push button switch for the horns. Hopefully I can get them in this weekend.
