hi new to train horns

hello everyone i’ve picked up what i think are Nathan air chime K5la train horns i got a 5 gallon tank and air line and a wooden type manual valve to let em blow, i was wondering where i could get a switch to mount it on the dash like a button or switch to hit i dont no where to mount the handle in my truck for a quick honk. i would also like to know if i wanted to take these apart and clean the inside of them is there gaskets i would have to buy? Also can i powder coat them? http://www.ebay.com/itm/150-PSI-12-Volt-AIR-COMRESSOR-Train-Horn-System-V107C-/130764945916?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D2250749590806565483%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D6%26sd%3D200814689657%26 i know it says it good for a 3 gallon tank but could i use it for my 5 gallon tank? Or post a link of a compressor that will work with my set up. should i mount my horns facing back off the rear tire holder on my truck or facing down towards the road, also what should i do in winter with road salt getting on the horns cause them to rust or anything like that? thanks for your help!!!

K5H - that’s a high manifold.
If it has 3a and 4a it’s a K5HA.
You can get a solenoid valve to honk the horns. Hornblasters has everything.
Radioshack has pushbuttons.
You can take them apart to powdercoat or paint. That’ll help with the elements.
There are gaskets or o-rings between each horn and the mainifold. Hopefully you can reuse them. When you get them apart check the diaphrams for cracks.
That is a very inexpensive compressor with low duty cycle. It wouldn’t last as long on 5 gallons.

I would mount them as high as possible…out of the way - unseen.
Welcome

How do i tell if it has a 3a or 4a ?

The A will be stamped after the number. 3A or 4A

Welcome, do you have a 98? I got a 94 and I point them forwards. However its going to be tricky with your high manifold, I mounted mine to the spare tire holder and they can almost be seen.
It sounds like you will need to possibly bolt them to the bed or fabicate a braket that brings them up higher.
I dont drive my truck in the winter, but when i did I took them off.

I would go for a 400c for fast fill: http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=viair-400c-air-compressor
or a 444c for a constant duty, ive been running the 444c for years with no issues(knocks on wood haha)

Yes I do have a 98 I will get a pic of it up when I’m on my laptop. I was looking at that compressor last night im getting that one as soon as I get my truck back running. My buddy had them pointed down when they were on his truck I will probably just take em off for the winter or cover them with something underneath the truck so they don’t get salt and snow in them

Welcome. If the horns are exposed to road salts then you might consider unmounting them in winter or clean them often.
