I’ve honked at trains on several occasions as they’d pass by. They’d often honk back with short notes, id usually just repeat their pattern of honking until they stop heh.
but i thought this site was interesting. i don’t know how up to date it is, but its about its about what the locomotive horn signals mean by their combinations of short and long notes.
I usually honk at trains alot too lol and don’t worry about the meanings when they’re moving through the crossings, the other honking is mainly for yard type stuff unless they have to stop or something… Oh and also, long long short long is the typical crossing honk but you’ll hear many engineers do their own kind of honking lol (getting less typical thanks to the stupid crossing sequence buttons)
thats cool man i did not know that lol i shud let diesel sniper know about this he mite get a kick out of it at least now i know what the sertte honks are now but i agree i herd the engeners honk thare own honks around hear to but hay at lest you gave him a heads up at least and know i know what to hear for wean i start honken at the train and know what to honk and what not to lol
Aahaha funny find.
There’s exactly thesame thing for boats in Netherlands…
Ever since I passed my license to sail huge boats, I know what the boats are “saying” to eachother… funny
And whenever I ride on the road next to the channel with boat (everytime i ride to the city), I always honk the “watch out you are on collision course” -short quick rapid honking- (then again the waters really wide open there and it’s always bright day light when i drive there so there’s nothing that should scare them really)
