So a train was about to cross, but was stopped, lights were on and the driver was walking towards the road to disable the crossing bars and lights. I gave him a few toots and he puts his glasses down and looks at me funny.
I turn around once i see him back in the train, I do the arm pull thing and he honks and i honk, he honks again, and i honk back, it was hilarious, wish i could have recorded it.
His horns were not loud at all, it must have had a restrictor, it was 3 bells so i was thinkin a k3.
Yeah I was first inline today as a UP was bout to go by and the markers dropped. But I don’t have mine working yet, I was shorted 5/8" hose and now I have to be patient.
It had a big K5 on a high manifold with bells also facing the rear.
They were probably all gunked up with crap. My brother in law used to work on the railroad and he said they never maintained the horns. He said when they started sounding really really bad and could no longer meet the db requirements, that they would junk the horn set and just get new ones. Plus you have to figure, they honk those horns a heck of a lot more and for longer periods of time than we do with them on our vehicles.
My friend has a set of cheaper horns on his truck. We were at a park one day and he played with train. The conductor actually played back. It was amusing.
