Horn Positions

Hi all,

New to this forum and love what I’ve read so far. I bought a set of HB horns a while back and am just getting around to fiiting them up and have a question on positioning. These are going under my custom van and I don’t have enough room to fit them facing down. I’m mounting them on both sides of the van along side the chassis rails up against the floor. I’m facing them forward behing the front step angled slightly down to get rid of any water and will be fitting a deflector plate under them to prevent any stones etc getting in.

To fit them in I have to split the set of 4 horns into two pairs and mount two horns on each side of the van. My question is does it matter how I pair these horns up for best sound tone? My current thought is to have the long and short horn together on one side and the two middle length horns together on the other side. I’m guessing it shouldn’t matter but just thought I’d ask the experts before I go ahead and fit them up.

Thanks for your help and look forward to spending plenty of time here.

Cheers,
Garry.

it wont matter… Personally i would have them face rear as you are going to still pick up a lot of road crap in them and possibly hurt the diaphragm… I have my set of psychoblasters facing rear and they are plenty loud when you are in front! Make sure all your pieces of hose are close to the exact same length… otherwise you will have some firing b4 others…

if your worried about tone… numbering the horns 1234 1 being the longest i would pair them 1/3 and 2/4 on each side of the van… I had my shockers for a few years under the front end of my truck facing forward… never had a problem… and if your worried about water… every thing inside the horn is stainless steel so it will not rust.

Another thing you could do would be face one horn forward and one to the rear on each side of the van that way sound would be evenly distributed around the van.

I agree with Se7en but I have found that once the end of the bell faces back, down or front, those things ring LOUD

Thanks for the great advice guys. I was back under the van yesterday playing with various options and I’m going with Se7en’s idea with splitting 1&3 on one side and 2&4 on the other. Looks like faceing them rearward will provide the best fit so am going with that also. I recon they’ll be plenty loud enough which ever way they face. :D:D

I’ll post up some pics of the install once done.

Cheers,
Garry.
