Horns will not work when tank is full!!

Hey guys just got my train horn all installed and everything but i am having a problem with it not working. When i let the compressor fill the tank all the way up to where the pressure switch turns off the pressure and i hit the horn button it doesnt do anything. If i completely drain my tank and run the compressor and let the tank fill up i can hit the button and the horns will blow but once the tank fills full or gets almost completely full the horns will not blow. I notice that if i drain the tank and let it fill up from empty it will always work just not when it gets to almost being full but when i hit the button and the horn does not blow i can hear the compressor dimming everytime i hit the switch. what can be causing this?? its like it doesnt have power to open and blow the horn when the tank is almost full.
please help me out here

Thanks

Its sounding like a problem on the Grounding? is the Solenoid & compressors grounded to the same point?

You should’nt really notice any change in the compressor noise when you press the horn? The solenoid does dot draw a great deal of power. It could possibly be a faulty valve, being that when under high pressure it is locking up and the solenoid is struggling to operate, this could be why you hear a change in noise.

What PSI are you running?

Is the wiring to the compressors direct off the battery to the pressure switch??

No they are grounded in different places, I am running at 145 psi and i have a switch to turn on and off the compressor. if i dont turn on the compressor and no air in the tank and just hit the horn i can hear it opening everytime but once the tank is getting up to almost filled and i hit the switch the compressor dims and i dont hear the solenoid clicking.

Is the Solinoied installed the correct direction? Should be a arrow showing flow.

Welcome. It sounds like a wiring, battery, or charging issue.

Yea the place i got it installed at said it was the solenoid because it would not click open under a full tank of pressure they said they will get a replacement.

Same thing I thought about…

Does it work better with the engine on, a bit more voltage for the air valve?
Does the valve make any noise when tank is full and you give it power or is it silent?

Yeah something’s not right

Nope if the engine is on it still wont blow if the tank becomes full. And the solenoid doesn’t click when the tank is full either but if the tank is half full the solenoid clicks and it honks.

Look at the solenoid and see if the arrow is pointing the right way.

Theres no arrow on it, its the triple chrome horn.

Check the max operating PSI of the valve to make sure its greater than the supply pressure

Thanks guys for all the help i got it all fixed and it’s working perfectly now when the tank is full. It was just a bad solenoid so swapped it out and it works just fine.

If the solenoid is the wrong way round the Horns start to sing, as the compressor runs, I know this, I have done it twice:D

Glad you got it sorted matey:D

yea thank you guys!!
